Cam Mod for hawk helium mini

Was it like this one? Lsahyong. I have a hard time believing the 660 lbs rating with this inside.

The one I bought was a little different - the springs weren't my real concern since they just return the cams to the closed position. My concern was no bearings and just a plastic post in the center that the cam turned on

Sorry the picture of the inside didnt post. I reposted it. Possible delrin bearings probably not, plastic post, and plastic jaws. There is no metal expect for the spring.

Harken only uses the highest quality parts and I would not trust my life in buy cheap knock offs on a boat or in a tree. There are other quality cleat makers like Ronstan. I have seen what cheap cleats look like on a boat when an sheet is released or not released with a inferior cleat. just my 2 cents.

Which Schaeffer cam cleat are you guys using and which rope size?

My wife bought me a 70-17 for Christmas and its rated for 6mm(1/4”) through 12mm(7/16”) rope.

Im thinking the 70-07 might have been a better choice because of the smaller profile but wasn’t sure which rope size I would be comfortable with.

I bought the 70-17. They are rated for 300lb working load. I think the 70-07 are rated for 200lb working load

I guess I'll just mount the 70-17 on my stick and use some 9mm Sterling HTP to test it out. If I went with a smaller rope I might save an ounce or two. No biggie. It has to be better than the versa button and buckle strap that I am using now.

I liked the rope mod wrap around the versa button on my old LW sticks but 1-sticking requires it to come on and off several times. Much easier with the cam cleat.

Now that I have done this, is there away to still be able to use the suction cups and stack them? The cams seem to sit too high to allow that. I thought about adding spacers and longer screws to get more clearance. Has anyone tried that?
