Cam over step platform...

I made a plywood version this morning and learned a bit. The inside corners need to be cut out where the blue lines are shown to allow for clearance around the ropes. The platform size and shape are much better for sitting, but it still works for leaning. I didn't have my phone fir pics.

The downside is the step still comes a little loose when full weight is applied, then goes back tight when you unweight or remove the platform. Someone else on here came up with welded tabs on the outside of the Perch to make it better. I watched closely and the prongs do move when weight is on the platform, so he is onto something. If someone can figure out how to hold them in place using the pattern I came up with, we may have a winner. Otherwise, I am done playing and going to stick to my 3 Squirrel Steps on an ocb.

Yes. Mine did too. I was going to cut the wood shorter but decided to attach an aluminum piece to the top of a step instead. I didn't like having two separate pieces I could drop either. I posted about it here.

I had the same problem and replaced the strap with amsteel thinking it was stretching that caused it. I finally fixed the problem by adjusting the rope so that it is as close to 90 degrees perpendicular to the tree. If your rope or strap is angled even slightly the step pulls away when you can it over.

Give that a try and hopefully you will have the same results.
 
We all started out having this problem. The cam over has to be very tight. More so then if your setting up for climbing.

The rope has to be set just about perfect and the cam over takes just about all I’ve got to lock it down. I think mostly though, like was stated earlier it’s the rope placement and having it all set just right. There is also stretch issues depending on what your using for the rope. The longer I’ve used mine the better it’s gotten. I attribute this to both familiarity and to the ropes not stretching anymore.
 
I'm assuming you can't cam it with the platform attached. That seems to help with WE Perch. I'll have to search for the post on the Perch about the weld to help it adjust

You can. In fact that is the surest way to get a secure cam. The board adds extra leverage needed to get the step tight, even with original strap. You just need to be careful not to bend a standoff when camming over. I had no pull away issues last year using this method.
