Campers…

I’ve owned a couple “campers”…….not my thing. I did a little math and soon realized that I can rent a cabin 10 times a summer for 10 yrs and still be ahead! Campers and boats are not a sound financial move (unless you find a good deal like @GeoFish ).
That said, if you can use it for work, get some tax gain on it, save housing rental, and cook home meals…..then you might be on to something. If you’re a weekend warrior, better do some math! JMO and no offense to anyone who enjoys the extra “project”.

Slightly used campers can be purchased for less than 50% of their new cost. I grew up traveling in campers and have owned them myself. We just sold an older camper last year and I didn't plan on owning another but, we are planning a two week trip from MD to CO next year and when the closest cabin to where you want to hike in CO is $450/night and a 2 hour drive it pays for a big chunk of a used camper right there. Then you start adding up hotels on the trip out and back instead of a $25 campsite or a free Walmart parking lot. Plus the fact you can pull off and eat lunch and dinner anywhere instead of 3 meals a day for two weeks at a gas station or restaurant and you can pay for a small used camper pretty quick.

@Bowtie747 not trying to derail your thread, but related thoughts. I’ve been considering a v nose cargo trailer for work with my woodworking business & would be great if I could make some modular hunting/ camping mods that I could pull out or store in the nose when picking up materials or delivering finished products……

No sir! Not detailing anything. I’ve been looking at the same thing! Be cool to be able to build it myself too

That is a cool setup

I like the idea of a camper. Some extended family lived full time in their RV and had the whole thing worked out where they were hosts at different campgrounds depending on the time of year and region they wanted to be in for it. It worked pretty well for them when they were partially retired, but had to give it up eventually due to mobility issues.

I almost talk myself into it, but then remind myself I'm a home body with no mechanical skills and think better of it.

I'm working on building a micro hunting camper on an old 4'x9' utility trailer. Spent 30+ nights sleeping in my truck last season and I need something more comfortable. I spent a couple weeks just staring at the thing brainstorming, but the build is now underway... I'll get some pictures of it and post a "build along" thread soon.
I'd like to see what you come up with. I've got a 4x8 frame I picked up with the idea of building a teardrop on it, but haven't progressed past that. Since I got the frame we added a daughter to our family, so we need additional sleeping space beyond a teardrop.

I've also had that idea. I was looking at some modular drop-in bunks for a minivan I was looking at a while ago - pull out the seats and slide in the bunk. Never bought the minivan so never pursued further. But maybe the modular van people have ideas that will translate to a modular work trailer.

We have a 36FT travel trailer Have owned many over the years from a pop up to a fifth wheel and I prefer a bumper pull Wont ever be without one We usually do 12 to 15 trips a year Lots of them being for a long weekend because the wife and i both work Mon to Thurs Campers have been the best money we have spent regarding our kids They are all grown now with young families and they all still love to go camping All in what you like I guess
