Can Heavy arrows cause limb damage?

Bowtech had assorted limb issues over the years and flex guards. Haven’t seen anything recent though.

Mathews had some issues with those big cam bearings letting go.

Hoyt fubarred their cam design when changing over to the binary.

PSEs had issues many years ago. Haven’t heard any issues in years though besides the mods slipping on on some cams a few years ago before the evolve style cams.

Elite I think they are a pain in butt. Going between draw lengths usually requires a whole new tune. Last elite I had I backed the draw weight down and doing that eliminated all valley what so ever.

The others…. I am surprised they are still in business…..
I agree with you but you forgot Darton. That's some still excellent and wildly underrated Bow Manufacturing going on with them up in Hale, MI.

I keep thinking about Darton. I was gonna shoot one later this year and see how I liked it before I ordered limbs. Not sure what the value of a bow is with bad limbs..

I am shooting a PSE xf30 and absolutely love that bow.
The '21 Xpedite NXT is a great bow too, fast but you wouldn't know it with the EC cam draw cycle. I would love the Xpedite Riser with the new S2 Cam. PSE is really coming around IMHO!!

If you followed your co-workers reasoning to its logical conclusion, then letting a bow down slowly should be more damaging than firing it (or to the extreme, dry firing). Let his mental gymnastics mull that one over for a bit.

One of those guys you don't argue with. He is a master hunter who hunts on his 5 Acers. I'm no ace I the woods. But I know my limits..

Was it a Bowtech?

Because of my tendons in my right arm from drawing with my fingers, I'm thinking I'll get another compound at some point. Talked to a bow shop owner two days ago. Bowtechs have had issues, but not the newer models. Mathews has come back a few times recently. Hoyt, maybe two in 20 years.
my 2019 bowtech exploded....but thats what happens when you derail it looking at it from the side when pulled back. Brand new never even set up yet lol.

DONT DEW DAT!

was honest with bowtech and told them im captain dumass and they sent me a brand new one. So at least they got good service

I'm no expert so take my thoughts for what they're worth... I shot a Matthews and a PSE against the Darton Cyclone when I was looking for a new bow this year. I ended up with the Cylone. It's smooth, had an "easier" draw (for me) at the same weight and was a little bit cheaper. It's significantly faster than my Bear was at the same draw weight and though not "quiet" isn't particularly noisy either. I did have to adjust my grip slightly because it has a strange ridge on the grip that dug into my thumb but 20 shots or so and it wasn't bothering me any more.

That's great to hear. Honesty is always the best policy. Good for you!!

Darton is some great kit!!! Never underestimate Darton.

In just picked up a new PSE OMEN with E2 cams and that thing is flat awesome. I’m liking it far and away better than the new Athens Vista 35 I bought back in the summer. The Athens shoots good but the Omen just gives me the warm and fuzzy feeling when the cams slam shut. It’s a little louder than my other bows but it’s also 20+ feet faster.

Seriously looking at this bow as well!!! Really liking the shoot ability and speed of the 21Xpedite NXT I’m using now though as well. The evolve cam system is awesome with its new E2 and S2 iterations. It would most likely be a superfluous purchase however as the speed is almost the same between the two. The Omen is slightly faster though. Like 3-5 “maybe” fps at the most then the NXT from the comparisons I’ve watched.

It’s a shooter. The size of the cams make it behave like a 40”+ plus bow at full draw. You would never know it’s a 5.5” brace bow. I love it

Good info, curious what you're shooting and what brand (s) you would consider if buying new

i love my PSE too. BruteX from like 2011. No issues with cam or limbs whatsoever. Had a Bowtech before that, returned it within the 90-day grace period to buy the PSE. Couldn’t get that damn thing to keep tune worth a crap and the string quality was ass. Heard their stuff has been better in recent years but I won’t buy a new bow until mine literally dies a Hamlet-worthy death.

Is there any possible damage to limbs from heat/cold/moisture?
Back in the day, mostly when limbs for compounds, yes, limbs for compounds were built similar to recurve and longbows using laminates of wood and fiberglass, the owner's manual would stipulate to never store your bow in a heated car etc. Or we used to turn down our limb bolts a turn or two so the limbs wouldnt' take on a "set." That's pretty much a non-issue nowadays however but I still wouldn't store my bow in extreme heat or subject it to ongoing moisture or dampness like in a damp garage or basement.
