If some was offing to buy you a hunting jacket/coat/pants....up to $500 budget.

What to buy? I'm in NC where it's cold for 8 hours a year. So.... Looking for good mid/low temp options. I do have Sitka gear discount.

Currently have the Fanatic jacket in mind but I worry its too hot for here and they have better waterproof options.

I realize this might be worse than asking what pack to buy...hahahahaa

I second the stratus set. I ave both bibs and jacket. Mixed with a good baselayer, its extremely well put together with the wind stopper and has held me at temps unde 30*

I haven’t tested it below 30, but the wind was blowing pretty good and I was more than comfortable. I’d imagine it can be worn well into the 20’s. I absolutely love mine. I’d get the bibs a size bigger than normal. I have a 31-32” waste. Normally wear a medium, but the medium bibs are super tight in my midsection. theyre absolutely worth the money

My favorite moderate weather combo is Wiggy's Jacket Liner with a Winona Cardigan over it. In the decades I've been in the woods, I've never found anything better.

How do they handle the hike in? Do you wear a base layer to hike in and then suit up at tree or would you just use different gear if you've got a long walk in?

Yessir I wore a base layer and the equinox pants when I’m going in deeper than I would on private land. Private the hike isn’t very far, so I pack the jacket it and just wear the bibs over the base layer and fanatic hoody

Just cant seem to find a good system I can hike in with where my tree clothes arent a bulky mess to put in or on my pack that can also be put on quietly at base of tree. I'm in the southeast so it doesn't get that cold for the vast majority of the year but it doesnt have to be that cold to eventually get uncomfortable if you are sitting for 12 hours. I need a better system then my hiking layer and 3 other layers in my pack I have to put on after a hike at base of tree then 1 stick climb in. It would also be nice if it didn't break the bank :)

I’m in northwest Georgia. They obviously don’t pack down super small, but it’s the best system I’ve found to date that’s warmth, cuts out wind, and fits correctly for my area. I’ve looked at the fanatic set at cabelas and it just seemed bulky. I’ve had cheap stuff, scentlok, and Sitka. It’s the best I’ve found and totally worth the money to me

That was recently discussed here:

Yeah, I'm generally hunting south ga but hunting public land north ga more and more. Except for 1 month out of the year I'm doing my best not to sweat much less keep warm. That's why I have a hard time dropping a lot of money on winter gear. When you need it you need it though.

Oh I absolutely understand. I had to buy a bigger pack in order to ensure the room to fit the clothes, items I’d need to hunt, and make it to the area to hunt so, like you said, I wasn’t dripping sweat from the walk in. It can be done. It’s whatever works for you. This is my first time having “expensive” clothing to hunt in. Albeit the temps never got below 25 up here in the mornings, the stratus suit fit my needs

Anybody own the stratus set and fanatic lite set? Wonder how they compare, I've been eyeing the fanatic lite bibs and hoody or lite jacket

Having looked at the fanatic stuff at the store over and over. I’d imagine the light is very similar to the stratus. I looked it too. I almost ordered that as the start ya jacket wasn’t able to be discounted like the other would have been. But went as advised with the stratus set.

Thank you bonus budget. Decided not to for a lease and to gear up. Last year was the bow and saddle set. This year clothes and maybe a new saddle. But don’t say that too loud. The misses don’t know that the saddle in the living room isn’t the one I had last year. Oops.
