Canoe vs Kayak

was more than I initially wanted to spend but its 3x the hp of a $300 trolling motor, no fussing with batteries and wiring.
The motor weighs 29lb! Runs 45mins wide open on a 1/4 gal of gas.
Yep. Trolling motors suck as main engines. Awesome for what they were designed to do.

Turning it off and paddling is a valid solution if you're concerned about noise. But I wouldn't be too concerned with it, especially if you're hunting 100 yards away from the boat or further and/or folks run motors on the body of water you're hunting.

I can troll the last leg of the trip, but usually I just run all the way to the spot. As long as you don't clank and bump too much in the boat I honestly think that if it even registers to them they assume you're fishing.

Deer aren't scared of motors. They hear planes, auto.obiles and boats all day.

Do they make a cart that would work for a canoe as well as getting deer out to the boat?

I have a Jackson Daytripper 12’. It’s kayak but it’s completely open like a canoe. It’s almost a hybrid. It is super light to load and move by yourself and holds lots of gear. I do want to try a canoe next year and see if I can load more gear into it.

Just got the 2.5hp today in the mail.
Only had enough daylight to test fit on the Canoe.
Still need to get the correct oil and break in the motor.

My buddy gun hunts using both. He kayaks in- fast and stealthy. Then if he kills something he paddles back to the launch and uses the big ol canoe to get his deer out. Kills some great deer in places other guys JUST CAN GET TO.

I have an old 15' Ouachita canoe and a Pelican Covert 120 yak.

As said by previous posters....the canoe is way better for hauling a load and the kayak is sketchy to get in and out of with gear without getting wet.

I like using both in certain specific situations.

Anybody heard of a Wenonah? good or bad?
I have 2 Wenonah canoes. One is a kevlar boat for flat water and the other is a Royalex boat for running rivers. I used to own a fiberglass Wenonah, too.
Wenonah makes nice canoes but I have no idea what type of material has taken the place of Royalex since its been taken off the market.
