Carrying Wild Edge steps

I have been playing with my wild edge steps waiting for my Kestral to arrive I hope in a couple weeks. I really like the steps and feel pretty fast with them, but I am trying to figure out my plan for carrying everything in to the woods. I got 2 of the entrenchment tool pouches and doyles gear hoist.....so......are you guys putting your wild edge steps in a backpack, or carrying them in their own bag? The bag seems like it might get uncomfortable slung around your neck after a while?

IMO the best way to carry them is in their bag in a backpack. When you get to the tree you can sling them over your shoulder. I tried a few different pouches this season but I didn't find anything that worked as well as their bag for going up the tree. I did add my own buckle so I could adjust the strap a little easier. I also cut the strap inside the bag and carried the steps upside down from how the bag was designed for them.

I got the shoulder pad they just came out with but using the red aider method let’s me carry 7 Stepps so I have not found it necessary to put a bag in a bag. When I carried 12 of them on the standard strap it dug in pretty good

I find it easiest to wrap the strap around my hand bunch and then carry the bag. Or for a long hike I strap them to my backpack

I use 2 - 30 inch gear ties that go through some molle style connection webbing on the bottom of my backpack. It is an old military bugout bag, and I believe the molle connection webbing is about 4 inches wide. Using the longer gear ties allows me to strap my platform on to the outside of my bag, so it is out of the way. My other bag didn’t have this style of connection point on the bottom, so I sewed 2 - 2inch webbing scraps to make the same thing.

The strap around the neck is not bad as long as it is ajusted right. I carry mine in my backpack and if everything goes right I will only need to carry 4 to 5 to climb with and if I wanted to use them as a platform instead of my Ameristeps I would add 3 more.

How high are you getting per step? I carry 8 and average 26ft.

I tried this with one step so far and using Red's climbing aider and an aider from WildEdge I can get 6' with no problem .
Just to make sure I understand .., are you using two aiders at the same time per step? Are you using a regular linemans belt or using a vertical lineman belt style? I was thinking about making a double step aider out of 1 inch webbing or modifying the Wild Edge aider into a double step style, but haven’t tried it yet because I am using the vertical lineman hookup style and figured getting my feet on top of the step would be difficult without having something to grab onto above it.

Two separate aider per step and moving with me as I climb. Linesman belt on my Kestrel .

Sooo.. what's the trick? I recieved my WE steps - a set of 12 - and the bag, but for the life of me I can't make then fit. I kept them stacked with the rope neatly tucked inside. When I place them in the bag with the pointed end toward the bottom and supported in the strap, they stick out of the top of the bag almost one full step AND the bag wont zipper. Am I missing something here? I would like to carry them as advertised.

I sewed on a strap to the top of the bag, and put a stitch a couple inches from the bottom so I don’t need the zipper. I carry 5 vet taped stepps and a 4 step aider in the 5 stepp bag, which I carry over my shoulder to my tree. I also put stealth strip on the back of the bag to quiet it down. You could also sew on some fleece but I’m lazy lol. I get about 5.5’ per stepp.
I think if I was carrying 8 or more stepps I’d have to come up with an alternate way to carry.

I carry mine in their bag, in a back pack.

I’ve gone to either 3 step aider or modified Cain method. I plan to rappel down.

I use my rappel line as my tether and pull up rope.

The plan is to hang the WE bag at hunting height and store the tail end of my tether in it after I’ve pulled up my rifle.

I’m thinking of adding some molle to the back side of the bag or some kind of loops to the straps so I can attach a small bag to it for, you know……stuff.

I use 3 steps. To the tree they get put together as normal and then I use one of those rubber gear ties to hold them together. I then clip them to the exterior of my Badlands Monster pack. When I get to the tree one goes on the tree and then one on each side of my saddle and up I go with a 6 step Black Diamond Etrier.

I use a 16 pack of steps. I have a tenzing 4000 pack. I put my steps in the meat compartment. I put my kestrel in first then steps. I leave the ropes out of the bag.

I have seen a couple guys make kydex holsters for them . this worked well but 10 were a bit heavy on your hip. So I carried them in the holster but in my pack until I made it to the tree. then I would clip it to my saddle.
