Catalyst Mini Climbing Sticks

Fantastic.................I got the Hawk 20s 2 weeks ago and the Novix Mins this week. Decisions, Decisions
I'm in the same boat. Had the helium for a few weeks just got the novix so far I like the novix better.

I would like to know how they stack also, can you give us an update when you get yours? I didn't like how they looked to be stacked side to side, looks like it would be too big of a footprint that way to pack well.

They are supposed to do an update today with more information on the sticks (like stacking).

That looks like one giant step for man to me, I"m short at 5 ft 4, no way I could make that step. Maybe make it a 2 step. Would that not swing while stepping up.

I"m referring to post 39.

Ha yeah, that is a huge step. They probably just put the aider on there for the picture. Cable aiders had the least amount of swing for me, but were hard to step into at night coming down. The Versa Aider has more swing but is safer coming down. I'm also playing with just using a 2 step aider on the first stick (closer to the ground in the case of a kick out) and no aiders on the rest. So versa aider and 3 sticks would be about the same as a two step aider on the first stick and 4 sticks. I don't really like aiders but I'm not carrying more than 4 sticks. Aiders are sketchy, still trying to find what feels the safe to me.

me too. I have been experimenting with aiders. Don’t like fixed single step aiders on sticks. Cable aiders were probably the only ones. Coming down they still kinda sucked.

I like having the aider affixed to my foot so I don’t have to fish for a foot loop stepping down. I am still trying to get use to trying to put the loop over the versa button stepping down. I have been using the backwoods mobile versa aider. I ordered the custom Amsteel version. Daisy chain loop for the versa so you can make it different step distances. I am just concerned about girth hitching my foot. Step in it will tighten it and strangle my foot... I just don’t know.

I always just carried 5 sticks. Trying to simplify that...

The more I look at these the more I want a set. Might order 1 to check out and go from there

So... I planned to use 3 of these with a custom Amsteel products adjustable versa aider. Figured I should be able to get around 16’ or so if I stretch it.

But then I was thinking I am going try one sticking with one of these. Just ordered some 9mm HTP for rappelling. Plan on using a 2 step aider I have for LWCG minis... should be a super light setup with my squirrel steps if I can figure it out....

What is this take 4 on one sticking this year

Yeah the girth hitch is brutal on the foot in tennis shoes. More tolerable in my light rubber boots. I’ll have to use it more to see if it gets better on the foot. Definitely the most convenient aider I’ve tried so far.
