Does anyone else use tampons for scent wicks? I keep a few in my backpack along with some dollar store clothes pins to clip the strings to limbs.
I have in the past. Dont use scent anymore. Works well and cheap.Does anyone else use tampons for scent wicks? I keep a few in my backpack along with some dollar store clothes pins to clip the strings to limbs.
Bear hunting? Some folks swear by using used ones.
I tried used ones for years. Some highly respected whitetail guys used to advocate using them. But in those days there was a lot of other things that I was doing wrong. I never had luck with ANY lure. I used to drag tarsals, save bladders, wipe down entire fresh deer carcasses with rags to get scent from each and every gland. I've never had a mature buck respond. But that doesn't mean it won't work. I did those things before I practiced odor reduction and before I understood wind patterns. No lure is gonna work if deer are downwind of human odor. Some folks swear by using used ones.
No the folks I remember talking about using them were deer hunting. We did have a lady that was hunting with us during her cycle that had an encounter with a bear that definitely was picking up scent. Came directly to her tree and stood up on it. She ended up having to throw some non-critical stuff at it to get it to move off. Fortunately she had a lot experience with bears and wasnt too worked up about the whole deal.Bear hunting?
I have used them in the past and they work well.Just like with calling when it comes to using scents Timing is everything.
My thoughts exactly. Made me think of another post...this guy was just trying to take the tampons to the next level maybe? https://saddlehunter.com/community/...things-we-find-in-the-woods.27910/post-488792Just so we’re clear - you folks are talking about taking used tampons - as in, used by humans in the manner they were designed - to the woods in hopes of attracting deer into range?
I want to make sure I’m following...
The late Charles Alshiemer used to write about this in Deer & Deer Hunting regarding the benefits of Pheromones from any estrous source be it animal or human. In fact he as so much said the time leading up for a humans estrous cycle and then went on to explain the many benefits of extracting the material from cows and a friend who was an artificial inseminator. The chemical component for all pheromones is essentially the same but that whole thought process kind of petered out. I think a person still smells like a person, a cow smells like a cow and deer smells like a deer. In nature the scents being emitted cannot be controlled. Not saying there isn't any validity to the premise but its application as a practical matter could be unrealistic. Some folks swear by using used ones.
