Cheap Stuff that Gets the Job Done

A year or more old new in box Bear bow off of ebay from a reputable seller.

The newer Bear bows are actually pretty good shooters. There for a while, they kept running slightly modified versions of the same hybrid cam system. The demand isn't super high for them and resale isn't great, but you can use this to your advantage. On Ebay, you can find their flagship bows from a few years back new in box and get them for half price, and they shoot about like the newer ones. The flagships that once cost $900 but are now more like $400 new include: Bear Escape, Arena 30 and 34, Kuma (still made), and Moment. I bought a new 2015 Bear Traxx in 2016 and gave $300 for a $750 bow. The only difference between it and the flagships was the cable guard, and I just replaced that with a Saunders teflon glide.

I haven't seen new in box 2018 PSE or Mathews flagship bows. Just know that when you are done with it, you won't get much for it used (the Bear). I've considered stockpiling a few.

Bought a brand new 2018 Bear Moment for $450 at the beginning of 2020. Retailed for $800 or $900 in 2018. Had all of the tags and stickers and was in plastic when it showed up.

Its HUGH actually. I have one and it can fit so much.

My problem isn't that I don't have enough room! I bought an inexpensive Mardingtop pack off of Amazon last summer thinking that my set of hawk minis would carry really nice on the bedroll straps at the bottom, which they do, if you're not short like I am. I've kicked them a bunch while walking this year, and there's no way I could ride a bicycle back in with that strapped on. I've eyeballed that Opord several times thinking that going two on each side vertically will be a better bet for me.

Bumping this thread for our new guys and adding Walmart Tasco 12 mp trail cams for 22-28 bucks. Just bought 2 because of @RobertLoper and his positive reviews

i use these, great for the price and you don't mind as much if they get stolen

did you find them on sale somewhere online? because i usually see them for around 35.

please share the link if you have one.

thanks - r

Still $29 and change at my local Walmart last night, but they had plenty of stock! I will check another location today at lunch.

Bought a few of these the other day with a 10 mail in rebate. Haven't put them out yet. Wildgame Innovations Switch 14 Lightsout Trail Camera – 14MP | ****'S Sporting Goods (****ssportinggoods.com)

site thinks you are cursing at us with the link

i would paste the line into notepad, change the offending word to RICHARD and then tell folks to edit to the nickname

this always happens here when referencing that particular box store
opps yeah I see that now

Just thought of something that I have been using for a couple years but forgot to add.

Voile straps on amazon.

I use them for lashing platform/sticks together etc rattle free. They are made for skiing, kind of a silicone strap when an aluminum buckle. Keeps loads from shifting around good as well.

I got two of the Mardingtop packs off Amazon a couple of years ago and they’ve performed much better than I expected. I alternate between the two of them, so they’ve each got plenty of field use. Still in excellent shape.

Have you never read Fred Asbells books where he talks about deer walking? It is basically putting your heel down with your toes pointed up and after your heel settles in kinda pop your toe down to make it sound like a 4 legged animal is walking and the stick, or in my case the recurve, acts like your toe and makes it where you can walk a little faster! The Asbell way he uses it on the last part of the stalk because it is so slow going!! I hope I explained it well enough! But do try it because it really does work!!

Great book.
