Fletched up new arrows for hunting season. Somehow in 1 day of hunting I cracked 2 arrows. Didn’t notice it until I took a shot and impaled the nock in my hand.

I have a couple of friends that have had to go to the hospital with impalings. Saving a $20 arrow isn't worth it. Test them and when in doubt throw them away.

hope you heal quickly, everyone needs to understand that a Bow is under a LOT of tension and needs to be inspected before every practice / hunt / shoot.

Great advice! I feel your pain and hope you heal quickly.

Unfortunately it is a lesson I have learned the hard way as well. I drove the nock end of a carbon shaft into my forearm once. I must admit it took a while to recover from the involuntary flinch upon release that resulted from it.

Thanks for the reminder. We should all browse google images for similar pics to burn it in to our minds that it CAN and does happen.

I bet ! It's threads like this that make aluminium look attractive.

I've been shooting leagues since February. I bought 15 Gold Tip Kinetic pierce platinums. Put luminocks on them and have been shooting all year. Two weeks ago one of my arrows started having erratic flight...instead of shooting the 12 ring I was hitting outside the target and making 5's. At the end of the shooting session I looked closely and saw my nock bent. Grrrr....This past Tuesday, myself and my team mates were shooting at a target 3 yards away....all three of us hit the 12 ring...however one of my teammates hit my arrow dead center of the shaft and gouged out a furrow. I bent it....didn't hear it crack or anything and still not convinced is was safe. Threw it away (kept the field tip and luminock) and then the owner of the shop took it and bent it just a little more and it snapped right at that gouge. Glad I didn't try and shoot it as it would have impaled my hand. Case in point...if you feel the arrow and can tell it's not good...don't shoot it. The owner did that to keep someone from taking it out of the trashcan and putting a nock and tip on it and shooting it into their hand.

Glad you're ok, always check your nocks if you try to nock it and it suddenly snaps on differently check the nock, I always use nocks are light colored not black so I can look for any cracks,be safe my friend.
