It's a good rule of thumb but we can't enforce it when someone posts a WTB add. That is how they guys are working, they are seeing people's WTB adds and just contacting them privately. Any ideas we've come up with to stop them so far would negatively affect the rest of the users of the site which outnumber the few scammers we've had. If this continues though we will have to take some more actions to try to limit them.
Why not just make the case to change it where you don’t have privileges to read the classified area without being a member for the $15 fee.

I mean, a scammer might also spend a little money to make money but this seems like it would stop some of it.

P.s. this guy tried me last night.

That would narrow the audience of sellers for those who are paying the membership to sell items.

Occasionally I sell extra stuff on gunbroker in the winter, I just had a “bot” trying to buy some reloading bullets I have for sale, the “bot” sent me a message wanting my phone number, and how I could tell it wasn’t a human was it wouldn’t name the item just the number, it wanted to make a deal before the auction close, I read that part of the ammo run is because of these “bot” programs grabbing everything up, so not only due we have to deal with goofballs scamming us watch out for bots lol.

Great! The machines are gathering up ammo and hoarding it from humans... Cybornetic instruments nothwithstanding,, I'm hoping one of you techs on here can way lay one and reprogram it to help us flesh and blood brothers out!!! "I'll Be Back!"

I’m a part of a FB bushcraft group that back in the day was trade only. They have a white list and a do not trade list. To make it on the white list you need three confirmed transactions. If you’re not on the white list, and trading/selling with someone who is, you are allowed to post items but you must ship first and provide shipping information. White listers are ‘trusted.” There is also a do not trade list for those dishonest folk. I’ve made a couple dozen trades and have never had an issue. Maybe we could have a list of those who have made successful deals with others? BTW I had a great deal with chris_goetz.

I had a guy contact me about my camera arm that didn’t have any posts and was new. I forgot about it so I just sent a report to admin. His username is very similar to a legit user too.

I am new and new to saddle hunting. For all the money we spend and let’s be honest, waste on hunting products that don’t work,15$ is nothing. That’s a drive through fast food lunch for two. A 12 pack of decent beer. I could go on but you guys get the point. 15$ a year to join period. Why not? 15$ to have a place that paying weeds out a lot of fake tire kickers and ones out to do no good. 15$ to support the service of the forum. If you cant afford 15$ you surely cant afford used sticks, new saddle, etc....... its a very worthwhile consideration.

What if new members say under 50 post count can’t PM, they could respond but not initiate. That would cut off this hustle of responding to wtb ads. Is that an option ? If so it would keep @redsquirrel from having to vet a bunch of new members & still a few getting through anyway........
Trapshooters.com is that way. Also, the classified section is called ' For sale - PARTICIPATING Members only '.
You need 50 'worthwhile' posts to be able to utilize that section...
I think it's a great idea. It helps guys get to know you a little bit before you mail $12,000 for a shotgun to a robot.
