Hey guys, wanted to bring this up because I've seen a few comments, youtube videos, etc that were a bit concerning, and I've ran into 2 or 3 people in the past that didn't even know this was a possibility.

Fellas, if you're climbing with your wedding band on, and don't want to remove it to hunt, at least invest in a silicone band. They're cheap.

If youre not aware, take a second if you're not squeamish, and look up ring finger de-gloving. It only takes a small mistep, slip, etc to catch the edge of your ring just right.

Good advice. I had a slight mishap a few years ago where my ring got caught on a step while climbing down. Now it wasn't enough force to cause any major problems but enough that my finger was swollen and sore for a week or so. My metal ring now sits at home and I wear a silicone band.

Same happened to me but it was the hook of a carabiner. I didn't fall on it or injure myself, but it made me think of it and what could happen.

It can happen for sure. My Dad almost lost a finger like that while working on the house when I was a kid. I never wear my wedding ring to the woods. Mostly for the possibility of losing it out there, but also partly for the safety factor.
 
This is a real concern. I have a good friend who degloved his ring finger on a screw in step (private property preset). He was climbing down and was one step up and hopping off when his ring caught on the step he was holding on to. Full body weight supported by the ring . . . something had to give. Luckily for him they were able to save his finger but the recovery was very long and painful. Its definitely one of the reasons I wear a silicone ring although to be honest, I'm not 100% sure it would matter in a similar situation. Damage might be done before the ring broke.

The silicone will stretch and break way before a gold, tungsten, metal whatever ring will. Might still hurt like heck, but you'll keep your finger!

I have two of the GrooveLife silicone rings. One in black and one in Mossy Oak OB.

The camo one definitely has less stretch than the black one. I like the camo for obvious reasons, but it is not as comfortable as the black one in the same size.
 
Seen my father slice his arm open when his watch got caught on an edge.
Also Jimmy Fallen had a bad injury from his ring I believe climbing in his garage.
 
This is the exact reason I had my band tatted on my finger. My wife had given me my initial band when we first got married and also had a custom band made later both had an oblong shape when I took them off. I am a woodworker and tinkerer and having a digit removing device on my finger doesn't work for me and getting it caught up in the canopy isn't very appealing.
 
I started wearing a silicone band years ago But never heard of this degloving thing. I knew it was getting caught on cooler shelving at work, just like a watch. I haven’t worn a watch in years either, and I’d love to have an Apple Watch. Both my wife and son have them…..I just know mine would get destroyed.

not sure what brands I’ve had, but I have an OD Green one for hunting season
 
Yep. Had a coworker almost tear off his entire finger when he jumped outta the back of the truck and an S-hook hanging on the tool shelf snagged his ring. ER, surgery, a lot of missed work, maybe some rehab, and phantom pains later, he came back wearing a silicone; maybe even a size or two bigger on account of how the wound healed. I’ve worn silicone or none ever since when doing anything besides typing or dressing up.

Lol sorry, couldn't resist. This is good advice for any active guy/gal. My dad smashed his finger once in the workshop and it swelled up/ring cut off circulation and he had to get his ring cut off. Thankfully it was done quickly enough that everything's fine and he didn't have to get the finger amputated. Even more risky for the guys that have titanium rings etc, sometimes they can be very difficult to cut off.
 
I grounded mine out while welding and boy did that take a long time to heal. A fella caught his while jumping off of a grain truck and it pulled about 6 inches of tendon out along with the finger. 100% silicone for me.

I always take mine off when welding. Didn't know it could actually do anything, but figured since it's metal I don't want it wrapped around my finger just incase lol.

I was watching Cops once and a drag queen got into a fight and he-she's hands swelled up so bad that they had to cut their rings off.

Don't go out like that, fellas.
