Comfort upgrade from a mantis

As far as comfort level… the mantis isn’t a high bar.

I like the latitude classic best myself. Cruzr XC and TX5 would be good choices for comfort also. I struggle to find any kind of comfort in 2 panel saddles.

Hi guys, currently hunting out of a mantis, looking to upgrade to something better for all day sits, in Michigan so don’t really have to worry about it being mesh, I’m 5’10” 240 is that changes things, have seen cruzr xc and kestrel flex mentioned often, anything better or these to the best for comfort? I just got the phantom used the mantis last year. Phantom was a lot more comfortable to me.

Come to the light, the JX3 tree saddle light..............
Don't be afraid, you will sit from dark to dark very comfortably, be able to snooze when you want, no dreaded hip pinch, no back aches, you can shoot 360° around the tree.
No platform required, only a ROS, no sore feet, no knee pads required, no sore knees, built in pack frame for carrying all your needs. Buy once, cry once.

Lol. No platform required...minimalist setup....ROS....with a....JX3 saddle. :tearsofjoy:

Really, though, no knee pads is a sell for me. And the weight/bulk is balanced by it's multi-usefulness. It's a good choice for some.

I think there are alot of good options right now, which is great but makes selection a bit more complicated.

I find my Kestrel Flex very comfortable.

As far as comfort goes it’s the JX 3, and everything else is a distant second. I hunt public land in the mountains and it rides on my back comfortably for hours. I slide a day pack and my LWHC in between the seat and back rest, and it carries almost as nice as my meat pack.

There he is!! :tearsofjoy:

Well he is telling you the truth. By the time you Carry in kneepads, platform, backpack, etc…. You could have carried one stick and a hybrid and sat in comfort with really no weight penalty at all.

LWCG .5 = platform + knee rest. 6ish lbs.

No "backpack" needed. A stuff sack will work thanks to the frame-lock feature. (you'll probably be running one with a JX3 too...its not, after all, a backpack).

Just add saddle of choice.

So yea, vs a 13+ lbs JX3, there's a weight penalty to the JX3....but, it could be worth it for some to go that route.

I've only climbed with my Merlin and so have zero real-world experience with others but my guess is that is also depends upon your climbing style. If you do alot of SRT and 2TC, a saddle you can sit comfortably in is nice. Using sticks, it probably doesn't matter much.

By the time you carry in a JX3 you might as well carry in an aluminum climber right? I mean if your knee pads and platform are adding an extra 6 or 7 lbs then why not add another 6 lbs to the JX3 and carry you in a climber?

I didn’t find the JX3 anymore comfortable than the Mantis. Then there is the limited mobility.

JX3 = NOT my thing
You are one odd person if the JX3 isnt more comfortable than any other saddle. You do know that you have to push it under your butt and set down. Dont just hang by the leg straps LOL. JX3 for everybody or every situation, noooooo , but not because of its comfort level.

I don’t prefer it either. I also don’t like using bolt on platform chairs in my bass boat. Some people just aren’t comfortable sitting like that. Ever notice some people like mesh chairs in their office and some like padded seats? It is definitely a comfort thing. What’s comfortable to you might not be comfortable to me. Lots of people love the Cruzr XC, it wasn’t uncomfortable but it wasn’t comfortable to me. To each their own

It cut into my legs while sitting that made my legs go numb in short order. I tried varying adjustments and just couldn't make it happen. Not to mention the plethora of black straps to fumble with in addition to a tether and linesman in the dark.
