CWD in Florida

I saw an article the other day that some deer are starting to develop resistance, and can pass it on to their offspring. I can't find it again now to say where it was. But, if that is true, then the practice of killing all the deer in CWD zones is counter productive. We actually need more reproduction so the resistant deer increase in numbers.
Wisconsin tried that 20 years ago, it took them about 8 years to see the folly of it.
It was inevitable. It’s been in Bama and some of our surrounding states for a couple years. I just hope the FWC has a real plan for how to handle it. On the bright side, the only time I hunt the “pan handle” is St Vincent’s so…. Here’s hoping it doesn’t make its way to North East or central Fl
It was prolly just a snowbird deer from up north somewhere not a local.
Phshhhh, if any deer herd in the country stands a chance of developing an immunity, it's Florida deers hehehe
I'm not sure what to think about it other than I really hope it never gets to the keys. I donated a head for testing last year. But here's the thing, and hopefully they have it figured out by this coming season, once I donated the head I was technically in violation of the law. The fwc guy had to hand write me a note so if I had been pulled over on the way home or if I was taking to a processor I had an explanation for not having the head which if we all remember the rules has to stay with u till u get to ur point of destination.

One county in Alabama has had at least 3 confirmed cases. This one hit on the side of our road was less than 40 miles from the Al/Ga line so that’s pretty unsettling. The pan handle of our state is where the largest deer in Florida are located. It’s the part of the state that gets the coldest temps ect…. I’m really hoping our wild life commission is prepared for this and can educate the general hunting population on how to cull or handle this disease.
Cant cull or handle it really. About all that can be done is bone out the deer and dont sever the spinal column until the edible meat is removed. Dont use the same blade on meat that you use to remove the head. Keep on keepin on.
If you look at the history of the spread of CWD into many areas, it seems to make no sense in that it many times moved long distances without affecting deer in between where the infection was and now is. I think the biggest driver of CWD introduction is deer farms and their practice of trading deer.
That is a very real possibility. Especially since most deer farms (especially the exotic deer hunts) don’t seem to follow rules for testing and transfer of livestock…. Or perhaps out of state hunters not following the rules for bringing game and deer carcasses back home? Although that seems like it would be harder to spread via this manner in my opinion
