Day hunt food

I'm diabetic, so I have to eat. Otherwise if I don't and my blood sugar gets to low I'm in danger of being a pinata. I bring with me two meal bars and two granola type bars that will survive my pack in. I"ll also bring with me a thermos of hot meaty soup, a thermos of hot coffee, and a 32 ounces of water. My pack is heavy going in, but light going out. I am literally out there from dawn to dusk...dark to dark. Espcecially during the rut and it's freaking cold.
I want to bring soup or chili to have a hot meal. What thermos have you found that works good for this? Thanks!
 
For an all day sit, I take two sandwiches (something not too messy that doesn't fall apart). My favorite is chicken or turkey salad. That's really about it and is enough to keep me going.

I put a mushroom and beef knorr pasta side in a 24oz Stanley food thermos, add a can of smoked oysters and the requisite amount of boiling water before I leave the house. It will still be piping hot well after noon.
 
I take 3 pbjs heavy on the p in silicone bags. The silicone bags are amazing for hunting, they make no noise.

where are you guys getting silicone bags? bowmar is selling them or like 20 bucks a pop, which i'm sure is double what they should be
 
A homemade trail mix (dried fruit, seeds, nuts, maybe a little dark chocolate) in a ziploc. Beef sticks or jerky.
 
I have a high metabolism and majority of my days are walking and normally climb at least 2 trees so I burn a bunch of energy. High temps and sweating profusely wears me out also....my normal food for a leave the truck at dark and return at dark day is 2 of those meal supplement drinks, 3 or 4 apples, 3 or 4 tangerines/oranges, Ziploc full of peanuts or granola, and some hard candy. Minimum 32oz water but often take more.
I normally don't finish all that but I rather have it than not. Coffee and some grits or oatmeal before I leave or junk fastfood as a very last ditch if I wake up a little late

I'm a pig I guess...hahaha
 
Depends on time of yr and what I am seeing. All day sits I take 2 PBJs and snacks like trail mix etc. I also always have my jet boil in the truck if I return mid day. When we head to camp for rifle I am always in the woods all day. Maybe not sitting in a tree all day but in the woods. This is when the jet boil comes with me. Nothing like a hot meal on a 30 degree day

We have a ton of all sizes. I took one to CO for my elk hunt to cook some DIY just add boiling water meals.
 
A ziplock bag full of my favorite Cajun trail mix with some assorted candies thrown in, along with a couple waters and an apple. That will get me through a dark to dark sit, usually with 1/2 the trail mix left.

I ditch noisy wrappers before food goes in my pack. Ziplocks are a relatively quiet option.

The YETI thermos is what I use for my soup. It keeps my soup HOT for 6-8 hours until I get to it.
 
My girlfriend makes me homemade power bars. She makes all different kinds; one example are dates and cashews ground and mixed with some oats and chocolate chips. I often bring two for an all day hunt, or something else for variety. If Im stalking, still hunting or tracking I don’t generally eat much. In the stand I might eat a bit more, but generally too caught up in the hunt to think about food. If I know I’m gonna be sitting from before sunrise to after sunset on a really cold day I sometimes bring a small thermos with coffee or tea.
 
Cranberry High Protein Oatmeal, with Nut milk, a sliced banana, blueberries, walnuts and pumkin seeds in a pint jar in the fridge the night before for the drive to the woods. Then string cheese, apple, mixed nuts, coffee power bar, cold buttered biscuits, 20 oz of coffee.

They sell those at the gas station by my house and I got 1 to try and I don't know if the 1i got was stale or what but it was disgusting and I threw it away after first bite.


Anytime I've ever taken anything chocolate it melts into a huge mess....I like the chocolate coated granola bar things too, and I leave those in the truck but don't carry them around.
 
I do about 10 dark to dark sits each year. I mostly eat homemade trail mix. Peanuts, semi-sweet chocolate chips and raisins. Somtimes I'll mix in some almonds, pumpkin seeds and/or Cheerios. My wife made a cloth bag with drawstring that is ultra-quiet. I just have that in my pocket and can reach in through the draw string and grab out a small handful now and then. I also like PBJ now and then. Dried fruit is nice variety. If I am ambitious I made a big batch of pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes that are really dense and then refrigerate them and take two of them in Ziploc bag which is relatively quiet like other posters have indicated. I take a 20 ounce bottle of water, but drink a ton before I leave for the hunt. On days when it starts out in single digits and only up to teens, I'll take a small thermos of hot tea. Probably more mental than physical, but a cup of hot tea about 9 a.m. really helps my perspective on a cold day.

yeah, i'm thinking i'll stick with ziplocs and just take it slow with them, the reusable silicone bags looks great, but i know that mid-season i don't want one more thing to wash/dry and care for....i'd end up using it dirty sometimes and getting sick!
