Decent bow for a tall dude, any ideas?

@Slingpredator06 Nah, I am not caught up in the speed thing or anything. My concerns are shot placement, and the arrow going fast enough that when the deer slouches/ducks/crouches/whatever you call it at the sound of the bow it is too late for it, rather than the arrow going over or getting a spine. I always pulled 70 because I could without issue. I have a feeling that ain't the case anymore, even with good elbow. If I have to drop to 50, I will drop to 50.

Yeah brother 50lbs with the right arrow is more than enough. In archery comfort is king. Im sure you already know this but by keeping your set up simple you can maximize your fps to draw weight. For example, using lighter weight arrows, not going overkill on the silencing components etc. Im no expert by any means but have been around archery for more than half my life and study it regularly. I have a buddy that shoots for PSE so if I don't know the answer Im sure he will. Please let me know if I can be any help.

Xpedition Perfexion. I run 32.5” DL. Awesome bow

Nah, I don't know much, got a used bow, loved it, old christmas ornaments at 40-50 yards was a ton of fun, clean up sucked but worth it. Went hunting a few times with bow but never had what I felt was a clean shot, so I have never even tagged a deer with bow. I didn't even know about the high value folks placed on fps until I started looking for a new one. Personally, I think there is some merit to speed, but I am not inclined to go further than 30 yards with bow, so I don't need it to warp time as it is let loose.

Wow, that thing looks a good fit for me, but pricey, over a grand new. I am hesitant to buy used, because I dunno enough about bows to know if it is set up right or tuned right or whatever. All the digging I am doing is making more and more paranoid that I am in over my head lol!!!

All the set up and tuning would be done by the shooter anyway. As long as it functions as it should and you like the feel of it theres very little risk. If you do buy it, take it to a local archery shop and they should be able to get you set up and sighted in without breaking the bank.

Spur,
When ever you feel the urge, send me a note. Good luck with the body parts. I'm 60 been a builder for 40 years and understand I think what your going through.
Bow offer stands

I bought my 2015 Xpedition Perfexion used with 2 awesome drop away rests for $500. Never looked back nor will I look at any other bow.

I didn’t post b/c of the all in price you mentioned but the prime logic ct9 & new Hoyt redwerx both have 32” draw options. But you’re talking 12-1700 bare bow. buying clothes, cars & bows sucks for tall guys

Mathews Drenalin LD. Been hunting with one since they first came out. Love it. Can't find a reason to replace it.

FWIW, I have a 2016 Hoyt Defiant 34 for sale that can be adjusted all the way out to 31" draw. The longer ATA is awesome for a longer draw. I have noticed that on a longer ATA bow I don't have quite as long of a draw length. On my triax I have a 30" draw. On the defiant I have a 29" draw. The defiant has an adjustment that's easily adjust with a couple allen wrenches.

I feel your pain I’m 6’4” shoot a 31.5” draw I’m still clinging to my elite pure it’s a 2012 model I bought new in 13 and even though it’s getting a little age on it I don’t look to put it down anytime soon!

The pure was my first elite. Stole it from a local pawnshop for $150. Sweet bow.

Either way you go, you are gonna want at least a 34” ATA.

Thats beyond a steal!!!!.... the only bows I ever come across at pawn shops are usually a pile of Martin lynx’s that weren’t worth $100 10 years ago let alone now!

I have the same height/draw length issues. I shoot a 30” draw and turn out my left elbow to make up the difference. Been shooting that way from the beginning so it’s just second nature to me.

Don’t get all hung up on FPS and draw weight either. I went from a 41” ATA Pro Line to a 32” Switchback and haven’t had any issues. I did back down the Switchback to 60# limbs a few years ago and wish I had done it sooner. I shoot a 517gr arrow/broadhead combo, it’s devastating and the Switchback handles it with ease.

Luckily for me, the guy there had never heard of Elite, and had a couple of old Matthew's bows (featherlites) for $200. I went through the little act of hemmin' and hawin', and finally told him that I'd never heard of Elite, but had buddies with Matthew's bows and knew they were great. Asked him if he knew anything about Elite, and why they wanted more for it than the Matthew's.

I'm sure both of us walked away thinking we'd played the other, but I regard that as one of my best finds. Right up there with the '82 Fender Jap-Strat for $175.

A recurve will be easier on your elbow, no cam to break over. 64” would probably be the minimum for you but you would lose an inch or 2 of draw.

Beware of short axle to axle bow when you have a long draw length. At full draw you may create excessive cam lean that will fishtail your arrow. No amount of tuning will get rid of it. Arrow speed is not real important to me. 60# bow is more than enough poundage.

Solution: Get longer draw length, like 38 inch or better. Longer axle to axle is more stable and more accurate.

Accuracy trumps speed every time
