description/review of amsteel buckleless treehopper step climbing method after 20+ hunts

update: might do a video on this when i find a good tree and can use my new iphone mount

i used this method only this whole season (30 climbs i'm guessing)

it worked flawlessly

of course, i'd like it to be even lighter, and it is slower than 4 sticks with aiders...but nothing is perfect

if i get 4 tethrd one sticks, it might take this method's number one spot

Use the bolt/aider method, but replace the bolts with these steps.

you should be able to hang a step every 30” minimum, maybe as much as 40” depending on how tall you are.

8 steps to 20’ at 30” spacing. I typically get to 20’ with 6 bolts. Been waiting for someone to perfect the step attachment. May give it a try

I just tried that with the treehopper steps and Raisin's attachment method, and it works great.
Instead of the versa strap the guy in this video is using, I made a dog bone with two loops. With my 16" step spacing I can get to 16 feet with 6 steps and the aider, total weight is 2 3/4 Lbs.

Used this method with a hammock strap, similar to the hys strap, then went to 2TC and never looked back.

I'm about to start my third season using this method as my only climbing method.

In the last 2 seasons, I've used this method on around 80 climbs. Usually using all 12 steps each time, that is around 960 steps I have set and stood on using this method.

I'm 180 lbs without gear, for reference.

Of these 960 steps I've stood on while attaching the next step, I have not had a single one slide down the tree or slide around the tree. When they are set tight, the wing on the steps and the knots holding the step in place make these nearly impossible to move. I can stand with full side pressure on one like a ring of steps and it only turns into the tree some but you can still keep your foot on it. This is not at all like old cranford rope steps.

Before these, I used cut down hawk helium sticks with single step aiders. This is lighter and safer. I feel this is safer than even sticks by themselves, without using aiders. I feel this might be one of the safest lightweight methods.

Whats a good aider set up for the Pioneer/Squirrel type steps?

You staying with the Treehopper steps?

probably for this season....the silent approach bullman's are loud and by the time you silence them they weigh as much as treehoppers.....plus treehoppers have the wing and are more secure to side pressure

both are locked on their up and down and secure
