Digestive issues with my dog. Anyone else have experience?

My pit bull has all sorts of weird allergies . She always had bumps and like blood pimples on her lips and chin and between her toes . We tried changing to many many different foods . You know what it ended up being !? Laundry fabric softener . But for her sensitive stomach we use Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach food and it works good but sometimes she still has a bad week . So we go to boiled chicken breast and white rice for that time

First and foremost make sure the dog is not wormy Whipworms and hookworms are notorious for causing loose stool after exercising. If he is not clean it does not matter what u feed.I breed raise and train AKC registered beagles and unless the dog has allergies about any good quality food will keep him in good shape Be careful changing feeds and when u find one that works stay with it Dogs thrive on consistency We feed Purina Proplan to our trial dogs Good Luck
Little tip for a dog that is just a hard gainer Give him a little peanut butter on bread He will love the treat and it will give him a big calorie boost. Works great on nursing females

I have a Beagle with issues. We feed him a little Purina Pro mixed with rice and WalMart can chicken.
I knew a doctor that had 4 large dogs. She fed them each 1/2 of a raw chicken every day. Not saying to do this, I always thought that was unique.

I really don’t recommend raw chicken, good way to give the dog salmonella and get it yourself.

I’d much prefer a commercial dog food because they are well balanced in nutrients.

Feeding raw is outstanding but is a big commitment You can go back and forth You also dont need to feed just chicken for a dog to get all they need

Maybe try iams lamb and rice? My parents made the switch from chicken and rice, it cleared up soft stool issues in their dogs

Any updates on your dog? I meant to ask Saturday but it slipped my mind

So I know lots of you guys out there have dogs. I got this 2yr border doddle who I can't put weight on. Over all he seems pretty happy. Runs hours in the back yard. But his food just runs threw him, and he is always hungry. I have tried lots of different foods. All sensitive stomach stuff. Limited ingredients. Give him probiotics. History of parasites and Guardia. He was a rescue pup. Pretty sure he came from a puppy mill. But I can't get his gut right.
Anyone have any natural stuff they have done to help fix their dog? He really liked the old venison and rice I fed him once upon a time. But I don't have any more old stuff.
I am a big fan of natural remedies if possible. So curious if any one can help me out.
Any herbalist?
Cooked Chicken and white Rice no ingredients until stomach settles for 48 hours. If you really love your animal you can chop it up into small bits easy for them to consume. Then slowly introduce food back in.

I’m not advocating raw food diet but not because dogs can’t do a raw food diet. They are not susceptible to salmonella but can carry the bacteria which can be harmful to us humans. They can eat poop and re digest it I so they’ll be ok with some chicken.

i recently switched my dog to purina pro plan chicken and rice....pro plan seems much better for him and he loves it.....it smelled so good that i chewed up a piece and spit it out (i'm crazy enough to taste dry dog food but not crazy enough to eat it too) and it was better than some human food i've tasted (you could easily get used to it and live on a desert island on it)

i would find a good vet that practices science-based medicine
That’s a good way to spend a lot of money you may or not be able to afford. I know they got my sister in laws dog on the special gut food and it cost about 4x the typical dog food, she went a couple grand in debt on a credit card trying to continue to get it for a big lab she has. It didn’t solve all of his gut problems. I think every case it gonna be different. Don’t think that there arent vets trying to sell medicine just like doctors.

true, i lucked out and found probably the best vet overall in my state....also a big time bowhunter that leases land out of state and kills monsters

Out of curiosity, which heartworm preventative is he on? Where do you live? Parasites are high on the list, and a negative fecal far from rules them out; a course of broad spectrum dewormer like fenbendazole is not a bad idea before pursuing further. Some heartworm preventatives cover more intestinal parasites than others, and if there's a gap in coverage, the parasites will find it...they're good at what they do. It would be odd in breeds other than German Shepherds, but pancreatic exocrine insufficiency presents similarly; there is a test. Have had good results with Hill's GI Biome, Royal Canin and Purina prescription diets. If this is ongoing, he's likely B12 deficient and may need replacement also. Most but not all food allergic dogs present with derm signs, especially itchy ears, face and feet.

We almost lost our dog to HGE. Really nasty situation; dog was struggling badly and my son was a wreck. It's been doggy bag roulette ever since and I've worried a lot over it.

Well, my wife pulled a Mad Men and came home with a backup puppy named Judas (just kidding). What's weird is the dog has been raiding pup's food and he's never had better digestive productivity. So we spared pup the fitting moniker, and dubbed him something more representative of his personality (Mussolini..again jk).

I believe the feed is Wellness Core. I can't say this is even a good food, it's what breeder had pup on. But, I haven't been scraping goo off the grass, so I'm pleased.

I love him. But love my wife and kids more. So feeding him chicken and rice on a regular basis is out. Not enough time.
He can't eat better than us. Lol.

So sounds like he's still having issues. I totally understand him eating better too. I'm a dog lover too, but a doggie chef I am not lol.

Hopefully he improves soon!

Right now I am feeding him Solid gold. The leaping waters salmon, digestive health food. He has been on that for a few months now. I tried it before, and it's the best luck I had out of anything I tried. He gets 5-6 cups through out the day. Plus a probiotic. And I give him some gluten pill my wife has been using. Suppose to help heal leaky guts. No prescriptions.
With kids I can't keep everything off the floor, and he lives to clean it. So he is always finding something. I give him some grain free treats occasionally. Over all he seems healthy. Just thin. Spends his days out side in the back yard running circles barking at the cars going by. So he gets lots of exercise.
Which I do believe it part of the reason things are loose. I think his morning ones when he is rested are fairly solid. But when he gets running is when I get pancakes from him.
So when I clean up the yard, it's a range of specimens. A few decent ones, a few okay ones. Then a few wet ones.
He is very active and hyper. Stubbornness of the poddle, mixed with the energy of the border collie.
Man I feel you here, my pit never even knew what people food tasted like till we had kids, now I can’t get her out the kitchen. Recently we had to take her in for two weeks of bloody diarrhea. Really thought this was it for her as she’s 15 which is ancient for a pit bull. Doc said her pancreas enzymes were high and recommended I scale back her regular food and mix in some tuna or salmon with a probiotic she gave me. Took a couple weeks but she turned around and has regular stools now. It got me thinking wonder if it was her food? Recall a few years back that pet food company got sued I think for putting something in the pet food and killed a bunch of pets? Not saying that’s your case but if your vet is drawing blanks maybe a substitute or elimination diet might work if a sensitivity test comes up negative.
