Ditch the Ropeman

I did the same. I was a little concerned of the integrity of the cord where the stitching was. I have tossed that since. I would suggest just ordereding the longer Jammy.

See page 4, post #71 from @Red Beard. He found that the Kong mini figure 8 (keychain) is perfect for use as a prusik tender on 8-9mm rope. Lots of us bought out all the stock on Amazon at $5/each but there's another source now for $1.19.

I bought a few. Thank you!

The distel hitch is da bomb ! It’s ever so slightly less ease of use than the ropeman but I love it. I was going to buy another ropeman for my tether. Using a ropeman on my lineman so I’ll leave that alone. Thanks again for the post.

This was my solution to the ropeman. It’s a little noisy for now but I got it for less than $10.

The 60cm Jammy is the same purple color. I'll know on Thursday about the 50cm.
The Jammy is the strongest in its size (5.5mm) that I'm aware of.
I'm curious about some of the other 5-6mm cordage too.
You probably could make one work with the 50, the 60 would definitely give you more wiggle room though.
Your math seems off. By my estimate a 4 over 1 distel is 5 wraps around the rope, plus another half-wrap from top to bottom. 8mm rope and 5.5mm cord, call about an 14mm diameter to cord centerline. That's about 22cm in the wraps plus another 3ish cm in the top to bottom. Roughly 25 cm plus your tails and knots.

You are probably right, I was just going off of my previous experience, but it is also with bigger diameter ropes.

I'm thinking @sojourner used a 60cm jammy if you look back in the first couple pages post #29. It left plenty tag end on the loops.

The 50 should work fine

I did use 60cm Beal jammy w/ sewn end cut out and discarded. I did not separate the sewn portion and use it. And yes, there is substantial tail on it.

I hate this forum sometimes.. or my wallet does...

Just got done reading like 25 pages worth of oplux material on here. After all that I'm blanking on how many feet worth of rope you all are using for a tether. I'm currently using the 8 foot hunter safety system rope. How much would I need to tie with an eye and end up with the same sort of length?

And to confirm, the gear list for 1 tether would look something like?:

-x feet worth of oplux
-mini figure 8 kong
-50cm beal jammy

Thanks.. gonna go fight off the desire to try climbing via SRT now

Tie knots in your current rope to get a ballpark idea, and round up. Or maybe rope pusher @DanO can help.

Guys, today I hopped up the tree for some practice shooting and used my oplux w/distel tied jammy LB and found that combination works just fine without a tender. Going up the tree I adjusted it four times and it was effortless really, so after I finished shooting I climbed down the tree and spent some time trying to load the distel hard and each time I was able to release it easily and take up slack using one hand without the slightest struggle.
Has anyone even tried without a tender or did S.H.E.M.S. take control and override the "try before ya buy" thought process?

I cannot picture on a stick, and with one hand, pull tag end of lb forward toward tree and the jammy/distel tends in slack. Can you take a quick video in action?

I wondered after I used the distel if the tender was needed but it weighs nothing, works awesome and was cheap so I’m leaving it on. I still can’t believe how well it works compared to a prussik.
