Ditch the Ropeman

I wondered after I used the distel if the tender was needed but it weighs nothing, works awesome and was cheap so I’m leaving it on. I still can’t believe how well it works compared to a prussik.
I haven't tested your exact rope combo, but as ropes break in depending on the cord operating without a tender can become slightly more difficult.

The 50cm Beal jammy I just ordered came as black and grey. For anybody wondering about other color from purpleScreenshot_20191001-083238_Gallery.jpg

I will get my 3 jammys today. I like that black and grey combo. I think mine will be black and blue. Hopefully that is mot an indicator on the color I will be after using it as a distel.

You guys are over-complicating it.

Thank you! Does that work with a full load? Where did you get the little ring?

Just to make things even more interesting...
Here is my 2.5 gram solution

It’s a Loop Alien from Ripstop By The Roll.
$5.00. The large hole fits perfectly over Oplux and I am using one of the smaller holes to tie off with 2mm cord in between the eyes of my Schwabisch.

If you like this, please don’t buy the cheap Chinese knock off. My future son-in-law is the general manager for RBTR. Patents cost money. It’s $5.00 and you are supporting a North Carolina founded and owned company. I get nothing for this, but I am proud of Carter.
Thanks

Just ordered two. The Kong mini figure 8 works fine but I really want to give these a try! Must be the NC connection that got me.

I want to encourage everyone(as always) to try this at ground level before you try it up high. I had tried it several times with a solid pull and even slightly suspending from it in my shop. I was letting a friend check it out and it slipped 2-3 times in a row. I did swap to a thinner rope that my mini figure 8 would go over.

I am going to try to figure something else out and thoroughly test.

the Olpus rope may be the ticket. I am not sure what I have. I just know it is a static kernmantle rope..

These other guys got me nervous when I read about the slippage lol

The size is correct but not all materials play well together.

I put all of my weight on the Beal Jammy/OpLux system last night. Jammy in a standard Prusik configuration, that combination is excellent.

Try that with a distel hitch and see if there is any difference. I went from the prussik with no tender to a rope man 1 and then back to a prussik with a tender, and now I use a distel hitch with a tender and find that to be the best. Let me know what you think, but I like your thinking on that tender!

Could you post some pictures of what you mean here? Or a video?

The distel hitch releases much more readily than a prusik. Note also that it may need tweaking of the number of wraps to hold adequately and should be thoroughly tested.

I actually like the Schwabisch better than the distel , but don’t have a ton of experience with either. I had used a Prusik for 30 years before this year. The Schwabisch takes up less vertical real estate on the main line, which can matter if you want to pull yourself as close to the tree as possible. I also think it doesn’t release quite as easily as the distel , which makes me more comfortable coming from a Prusik. Most people would consider that an advantage of the distel and I might as I get more comfortable with it.

Yep, marine grade heat shrink tubing to tidy the ends.
Why do you say the schwabish takes up les space on the line? I feel like it takes marginally more in a lot of cases. The distel you can easily tweak the hitch-carabiner distance by retightening your poachers which I really appreciate.
