Ditching trail cameras?

They will all brick themselves at some point. Over it
I will say the guy here that kills his
Monsters every year, finds them with camera. If they aint on camera, he aint wasting time hunting that area. Keep moving them every 3-4. Most people leave them over a week. WRONG

Pretty much what I do but I can't pull it off every year.
Keep moving until you find one. Once you do, slow down, move a few cameras into a tighter area, check once, and setup for the kill.

Because people should be able to do what they want on their own land. I do agree with the ban on public thing. Just my humble opinion though! Haha
Pushing for a ban on trail cams on public might just lead to a ban statewide. I cant understand why anyone would want to rally to have rights taken away or push to have others rights to be taken away. How does allowing people to use trail cams on public land effect you personally ?

What is the reasoning for banning trail cameras? Private or public?

Dont take this as me being argumentative, I just want to rephrase the discussion and ask for your perspective. How much technology do you need to be an effective deer hunter and where do you draw the line for "fair chase"?

I would not push for a ban. The less government does the better, generally. If the state wildlife agency banned them on public ground, I would not have a problem with it. The issue I have with trail cams on public is two things. First off, it is nice to be able to go out in nature and not have to keep an eye out for a camera talking a picture of me. We all live under the constant gaze of innumerable cameras everywhere else we go in public these days. It's just nice to have somewhere where this is not the case. It keeps nature wild. The second issue I see with them is that guys will put out a camera and then get very territorial about that spot, the same as if they allowed people to put out permanent tree stands. They don't allow permanent tree stands on public. Also, I have seen a few cameras on public perched over illegal bait piles.

I’m not rallying against anything, simply said my opinion on it. Would I do anything or be apart of the ban, no. I’m not against it.

As far as me personally they don’t affect me. Sometimes you look above yourself and it does effect the general dynamic of public land. That I don’t like.

As @BTaylor mentioned how far does trail cameras go into the being “fair chase”. People have the right to do what they want on their own land. Public land should be that, public. But In a way public land deer arnt yours to “manage” Hard to describe the perspective in trying to come from here haha

Youre Definitely right about the if they ban part of it they will ban it all. So that’s another Reason I wouldn’t be going against them. #lessgovernemt haha

Just my opinion but public ground should be about equal access and opportunity. Technology can certainly tip the scales in that regard whether we are talking about trail cams or e-bikes or other tech. Dont claim to have the answers about where it is appropriate to draw lines but feel like we are to the point of needing some if not well past it.

Point 1 is kinda where I’m getting. It’s for everyone. Just because you can do what you want to a degree in public land doesn’t mean you should do that thing effect other people directly or indirectly.

thank you for saying it better than I could myself haha what he said is what I’m trying to say

So should cell phones and GPS also be banned on public? Where does it stop? Dont we all have the same opportunity to run cameras or ebikes if we chose to?

Don't take this as being argumentative because I am not trying to be. Cell phones are a safety concern if you get lost, injured etc. and I see as fine unless you are walking up and taking a stranger's picture with it without their consent, which is what a trail camera often does. A person's GPS is passive to others and does not record other people's activities, only their own. As for bikes, I see no problem with petal powered bikes but there is a fine line between ebikes and a motorbike.

Also, many people do not have the opportunity to use an ebike because they cost thousands of dollars. Just my observations. Don't take any of this to say I advocate banning them.

I would say no to both questions. I know of guys that will putout dozens of cameras on public and then use an e-bike to to run them. I would venture to say that the majority of people hunting public ground dont have 5k+ to drop on a bike and trail cams. But I will ask again why do you feel you need those things? Why are so many intent on finding every easy button they can?

I’d say that in great part it’s due to product placement in popular programming that is designed to give the impression that various tools increase the odds of success. Most of the hunters I know spend more time shopping for gear and running trail cams than actually hunting. And most
Of them rarely get a deer, they really like the idea of hunting but don’t actually wanna do it. Now this is not a dig on anyone, just an observation that I see among people in my community.

I dont have any cameras on public or an ebike and i understand the invasive nature of cameras so maybe you are changing my mind that is the reason i asked for other opinions.

Do you leave your cell phone and GPS in the woods?
Well that depends on who you ask. LOL Got a buddy that used to leave everything in the tree if he was going to hunt that stand the next morning. Would come out with just his headlight and phone. Pretty sure the phone got left a time or two.
