I decided I was going to take apart one of my old hang on stands cut it down and buy aluminum and make a plat form like I have seen so many people on here do. Well it did not go well! The metal on the stand is old and thin while welding I blew trough many times. To the point where I'm scared to even use it. So I guess I'm going to have to figure something else out i was trying to be cheap and it bite me in the butt. Lost a hang on and still no platform!

I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish there but you did a lot more work than was necessary. The stand would have functioned just fine as a platform after you removed the seat. You just need to put a seat pad over the uprights to pad your knees or wear knee pads. That is what I use in a permanent stand site. You don't always have to reinvent the wheel.

Lol yea I tend to do that. But I was trying to make it smaller and easier to move and pack. It was going to be my mobile platform. I was trying to do what every one is doing with all the lone wolf seat mods.

I think right now you might want to wait just a few months. I know of several more companies coming out with platforms. Someone will come out with something priced lower because of the competition sooner or later. Hang tight and keep checking the forums for deals. Saddle hunting is a very personal endeavor and finding the right setup is something that takes some time. Sometimes complete setups can be bought or traded as people fine tune or try out something that is not right for them. The community (saddle hunters) is exploding with new products and ideas. Good luck with whatever you end up with.

Slomo I'm not sure if I want to say thank you or it's your fault lol your videos are what I was trying to do. I have a experienced metal worker working with me right now were going to try and come up with something instead of me doing it on my own. Keep up the good work and keep teaching us guess. Maybe your next video should be a detailed instruction on how to put one of your mods together. Just food for thought

If you can pick up the Out On A Limb Podium platform for $100, he sells at this price at shows and online during the show, you will have a great little platform at a reasonable price.

Almost impossible to build one for less than that

I agree. I looked into building my own as I have 4-5 old hang-on stands in my garage. By the time I figured out what I needed I was close to $100.

My XOP builds are about 110.00 my cost with all new stuff. My very first platform parts amounted to 1/5 of that and were all DIY and parts were sourced for free . I want to see some more stands adaptable to fit top steps or other climbing methods like we are seeing from a few guys already. I like that.

The lone Wolf seat kit is $65. If you add bat wing brackets on a small post it makes out to be a good little platform

I built this one for $70 including labor at the machine shop I work at. It's working good but I think I need to move my bolt down because the bottom wants to kick out when a put side pressure on it.

Looks good man. I gave up on that style of posts setup on mine and changed it to a cam over design. I never could get it to stay tight to tree before i went to the cam over design.

That is one serious tape job. What are the demensions? How are the cam over ropes attached . Are those looped ends ?

Better view of that here. Yea just looped ends. I sewed the loops in a strap i had laying around. You need quality stitching and pattern there because it is very high load when camming over. Roughly 12x12 platform.

I was trying to remember and im pretty sure i bought 40' of 1/2" square steel tubing and made 8 Stepps and the platform and had about 5 feet left over. I paid $18 for the 40 feet. I had to buy a small length of flat stock to make the teeth. That was about $3. I already had the section of 1" for the post but you're talking $1 worth of material there.

I built this so the bottom standoff cams like the predator platform, but for some reason it doesn't dig in good enough and slips. Its either been raining snowing here for almost 2 months straight, and as soon it clears up a little I'm going to get out and play with it some more. I think I should be able to improve it with some tinkering. I've thought about adding a second strap to the bottom to help in camming it over, but not sure if I want a second strap. Its not terrible, and doesn't totally kick out, but it does slip a little.

I gotcha. If you can't get it to work to a level you are happy with, definitely try a post with the platform in center. You could mock up a steel post to try to keep expenses down.

I compared mounting points on all my platforms I see yours and it looks like another hole in the post about lower on your post Should solve that issue . Platform looks high.

I am not having any issues. It is rock solid as it is. I moved it to center after designing it like the predator and not liking it at all. With platform in center of post, equal pressure is applied to top and bottom teeth when cammed over. My teeth are aggressive and both sets sink into the tree when i cam it down. Having all that post under the stand gives leverage to prevent the top of post from pulling away from tree when you stand on edge of platform. Having the platform at the bottom turns the platform into a lever that pulls the top away. The post would need to be taller above the stand to compensate so thay the post becomes the longer lever. Obviously people make it work. I tried to. I moved that dang button up and down then post to no avail. This design works perfectly for me.
