DIY platform help

Hey all,
Been reading a lot recently and decided to join and now need some help.

Made a DIY platform out of a lone wolf seat. Having trouble getting it secured solid.

I’ve made two metal posts and one with v brackets from Dan-O (my experience with his company was awesome) and another with lone wolfs.

Having a problem getting my set up secured to tree. I put in a button on one and tried using buckle and tying off on platform. No matter what I do I can’t get a good grip on tree. Area I highlighted is where I tried to connect to on platform.

Assuming this is all related to how it securing to tree. Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Are you tightening when the platform is lifted up and then stepping on?

Remove slack from strap, cam over and then tightening then stepping on.

Not sure if it’s the way I’m securing or where my platform is located on that frame. My other one is slightly higher and top seems to secure better.

It will never be solid using just the button. You will have to run a rope around the tree and cam the seat down. The problem you have to watch for is the seats are cast, so excessive cam force can damage them. I bent one just standing on it. Guys were breaking off the cast ears during cam over, but I see your seat doesnt have any.

Not that I know anything but I would think that if you moved the platform down it would help make the bottom standoff bite better.

Try to tie it on the next wider spot. It will cam farther. The way you have it, it might not be camming much at all. Try stepping on the post to shove it down before you cam out the seat. Or sell it and get a mission ;)

Do you think rope vs a strap will make a big difference?

Depends on the rope and strap. I like having the platform about center between the two brackets when deployed. As mentioned above, moving the strap connections to the next widest opening should really help. A strap with a cam buckle is one of the best ways to cam these over correctly as you can fine tune how tight it is before camming and re-adjust as necessary and cam again.

Thanks DanO! Will be tinkering tomorrow after work.

On the advice of others, I tried tying the strap to the next opening out but it would not cam tight.
Mine works fine this way but I had to use a Lone Wolf strap which is heavy gauge to get it tight.

And you can get it tight to tree this way?

I'll see what I can do tomorrow. I did add a carriage bolt to the spot where the adjustment bolt hits because it was denting the aluminum. You can see it in the photo. I have to feed the strap through the buckle when placing it on the tree since the strap ends are fixed to the platform. I think I removed the doubled over section stitches from the end of the strap to make it easier to insert. It shouldn't be a problem since if the strap loosened this far the platform would be on the ground at that point. I would be hanging from my tether.

I posted about it last year.

YOU ASKED FOR IT.....
I see I have re-drilled the pivot hole near the center of the post as suggested in the earlier thread. Other than that, it is the same, I think. I went on to other projects and this went in storage. It works well if you need a big platform for medium price.

I think I will take this out hunting this afternoon and see if a big platform is better. I may have to hang it from my pack instead of putting it inside. I have been using a small DIY Primal Step platform I made which fits in my pack..

Lone wolf strap upgrade helped. Hunted out of it sat and Sunday.

Thanks everyone!
