You ever hunt Milford State Forest? My son in law hunts a private farm near that and wants me to hunt out there on that public piece.

A little bit a few years back. It was still in rough shape from a tornado that went through the area probably 20 years ago. I'm sure it's good deer habitat but tough to get through. It may be better now than the last time I was in there.

I used to hunt a farm in Milford but have given up on it as the owners just allow too many people to hunt.

I finished my platform and had trouble with it tilting away from the tree at the top when I stood on it. A 12 inch post would have given me more leeway in where to drill the holes. I just found a Lone Wolf Tree Stand strap will prevent this tilt. I think this will work. Let me go take some pictures.
Edit: Photos. Not very elegant but should be functional. I jumped on it on a telephone pole at 1 foot level and it was solid. No tilt.
I girth hitched the Lone Wolf Strap to both sides. Feeding the strap through the buckle seems easy enough. Hawk straps are tougher.
3 pounds 9 ounces with strap.

I'm using the strap from www.doublesteps.com and mine doesn't pull away at all. Maybe that's the difference?

It appears to be mounted a bit low on the post. Also, move the straps toward to outside one more hole, it will give a harder camming action

I will try moving the strap attachment holes on the platform. The Lone Wolf strap has stopped the tilt. The strap I was using was too thin, I think. The platform is mounted low on the post to clear the u-bolt ends when folded. Next try, 12 inch post.

Im new to saddle hunting. Did you DIY your platform to save money or because you like to build your own stuff?

Maybe saved a few bucks but mostly did it because I didn't really like the design of the commercially available options. Building my own allowed me to get exactly what I wanted.

Thanks. I was looking at cost for materials vs cost of commercial. I didn't know what the reasoning was for diy.

I spent around $140-$150 building mine but if I omitted the double step that would save a little bit.

You might be able to save a little more if you got creative with your materials but I just bought what I thought were the best available.

Did you buy the seat directly from Lone Wolf? I see they are still available.

I bought mine from optics planet because I had a discount code.

How does it handle side pressure? Have you had a chance to tether in and check it yet? Seems solid on your video you posted above and I don't anticipate side pressure being an issue, but had to ask. I have a LW Alpha II that I'm planning to steal the seat off of an replicate you and shwacker's design. Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks to you both!

Side pressure is fine, I rotate on the standoff and spin to the back of the tree, putting pressure forward (pushing the platform away from the tree) but it doesn’t move. I have not tried a predator to compare, but my buddy is a ridge runner. It is nice but not superior in any way, if anything I think my build edges it out in a few areas. But that may be my bias and general comfort with mine after practicing.

Just weighed mine too, 3lbs 11oz. That’s with the strap. And I know my double step is 5 of those ounces if you wanted to save a hair. But the double step is what makes it great I think
