Do you need to fully bury amsteel to get hitch to bite?

Thinking about playing around with Amsteel as tether or bridge. So to get a good hitch that bite and still loosen properly, do both the main and hitch cord need to be fully burried?

I assumed so because that's what all the makers are advertisting.

Someone like @Brocky knows the answer to this.

I though hitch biting was a function of rope/cord diameter/ friction and that full bury amsteel was just a strength thing, so different parts of the puzzle (though I suppose full bury amsteel does increase the diameter which goes back into the first bit...)

I think the big boys do it because it is the easiest and cheapest method. They don’t need full buries, and I theorized it doesn’t increase the strength much, if any. The cover isn’t stretched out after the bury like the core, which will break when it can’t stretch anymore, the cover will have some stretch left.

I made a USA rope mod from amsteel for attaching climbing sticks to the tree. In the process I made one with full bury 1/4” and one with 1/4” and no bury. Both would bite well enough to hold a climbing stick. The one without the full bury was a total pain to adjust. So if you’re looking to adjust this hitch frequently, you want a full bury.

Amsteel flattens when not contained in a cover, the bury keeps it round. Has anyone used a hitch cord with a cover on the full bury, wonder if it works better than just an Amsteel one?
