Don’t pay 150 for a madrock…you don’t need it.

Lol this forum transition to Crocs is epic. As a retired Army guy I can tell you Crocs on a deployment in Afghanistan are a must! They’re also great for a day at the beach or grilling. Leave Crocs alone!

Not a crocs guy myself but I solidly believe in the right for every American to look silly if they want to. :tearsofjoy: A sincere thanks for your service.

Wow, just nuts. I apparently sold within 2 hrs

Sellers information withheld, I'm not trying to bring hate to anyone, just state the insane prices people will pay for the shiniest gadget

Makes me wonder if I should jump on the bandwagon and sell mine. What all could I get with $200?

The more I play around with mine, the less desire I have to sell it. It's an excellent ascender and a pretty decent descender.
It is just so smooth and simple to capture progress on the way up to limit slack, make a slight rappel between stick moves so you're not stretched out so far, and I can adjust tether length while hunting very smoothly. With each step as I ascend, I just pull up on the tag end to manage slack. I never have more than 6-9" of slack when my linesman rope is not in use.
I climb with it so it's always on my rappel line and ready to rappel in an emergency.
I wouldn't pay these inflated prices, but I'm not looking to sell for them either.

I have two of them and I’m transitioning to using them less but I have no desire to sell mine either. I agree with everything you said about them and that’s exactly why I have no interest in making a quick $100 or $200 dollar profit on them without being able to replace them.

The WHOLE point of the Madrock over every other device is that it won’t slip down a slack line while you are f’n around with your one stick. That’s the only thing it (sort of) does that every other belay device won’t. So don’t jump on and act like that doesn’t matter. Again, that’s the WHOLE point of the thing.
What's the WHOLE point? Nobody is standing on their stick with the Safeguard dangling around their balls and bouncing around like a monkey trying to get it to inch down the line. And even if you don't have a brain in your head and allow 3' of slack, who cares if it jiggles down the rope an inch? That's the least of your worries.

Guess what? They do slip down the rope, just slower.
That’s a fact. That’s one big reason I stopped climbing with my madrock and rappel rope and switched over to an 8mm tether and a Kong or prusik to one stick climb with. Well, that and I also got tired of that Madrock wrecking ball whacking my platform like a church bell. I do like the madrock to rappel down with though.

Only if you use the out of spec rope for it.
No. It slips down as you are climbing up your aider and advancing your tether using canyon C-IV, which is in spec for the madrock. And it slips down more than an inch. I kept wondering where all the slack was coming from and finally realized that the madrock was slipping down the rope when there was slack in the line.

I’m using 10mm workpro. I’m trying to get the hang of two tether climbing. The madrock loses several inches by the time I get my tether up the tree a few times if I’m not smooth. It’ll hang on the same spot all day if you don’t do anything with the rope, but so will a GriGri.

I use a safeguard to climb up and repel. Im hooked in from the ground up. I climb with a similar method to @Red Beard video with a solo scout and three step aider. Using a slightly out of spec oplux last year all season and I am tring out the teufelberger rescue tech currently. I can say with confidence that the madrock safeguard i use has never slipped down. Holding position combined with the ease of taking up slack is the main reason I use it over other options. I did over pay for a backup unit recently ($130) and will practice with that one extensively to see if it functions the same. I will follow up this post with my result. Im wondering how this is slipping down for some of you guys? Did I just get a good one, or are some of the in spec ropes a little slicker. I have set this in the sun, rain and snow. No issues.

Well I've never noticed it if thats the case. I guess an inch is a big deal for some folks. ;)

I'm using 8mm Resc Tech and have not noticed one bit of slip, but like I said, I have a one stick system where I'm keeping slack to an absolute minimum. But even when initially hooking up at the top of my first step with lots of slack in the line, there is no noticeable creep. It certainly isn't free falling down the line.
I even experimented with 6mm TRC in the safeguard (EXPERIMENTED AT GOUND LEVEL) and it didn't slip. It grabbed immediately and held full body weight bouncing on it. I did this to see if 8mm was really on the edge of the Safeguard performance. The 6mm test assured me I could trust it.

I keep a prussik on a carabiner well below the Safeguard to rappel down. Open up the handle fully and control descent with the prussik. It's just as smooth as could be.
