Anyone else find a ROS more comfortable NOT being rock solid? New to the ROS and find that I like them to be a hair loose. They tend to angle out to fit me foot positioning.

Agreed there’s a sweet spot with an ocb that’s solidISH , not bolts & not full pucker , but somewhere in the middle.

The only thing that I have noticed is when they are a tad loose they are a bit noisy.

Yeah, a little sponge in the ROS can be a bit easier on the feet, but it’s a fine line between a little soft and working it’s way down the tree, step by step. I go for tight and secure, personally.

It does seem to allow them to rotate to the angle of your foot better when slightly loose. Since I am setting the OCB while hanging from my tether (1-sticking) I usually do not have the leverage to get them rock solid. If the tree is smallish I will sometimes put two steps near each other on the sides to give more foot support and a little more comfort.

I like them as tight as I can get. Not a fan of steps sliding around the tree.

Following.
I too am new to ROS. Got a set of squirrel steps. When putting hard side pressure they kinda rotate. Not horrible but still there. When I hammer the OCB I get loud popping sounds. So I have been trying to find that tight but not to tight sweet spot.

I like mine very tight but I also like a smaller tree and use {6} Treehoppers. They are almost a solid platform around a small tree. On a bigger tree I use them in pairs of {2} on my side and singles on the back.
