Doves Day Opener

You guys wearing eye protection? I used to hunt a popular area for doves and got hit with volleys of bird shot from across the field more times than I can remember.
If the sun is out I'll have sunglasses on. We got rained with bbs all day.

We can't shoot doves here in commie NYS. Is an extra full turkey choke recommended for dove wing shooting?
It is out there on public land and a small field with way too many people. They won't let a bird come down into range. You better be able to sky blast with the rest of them or you won't shoot at all. I normally use modified but some places are just ridiculous.....

Be safe. I've gotten welts on my back from the shot but always had plastic corrective lenses. If I didn't wear glasses, I'd sport some impact resistant shooting glasses.

My first trip to a public Tennessee field was positive. Only saw a few birds and only a couple of hunters. It was a good day out. I wear Oakley sunglasses that provide some ballistic protection. Gonna go back during the week and hopefully find no hunters.

Me as well! My dad owns a 12 ga light and a buddy of mine has the regular 12. My dads gun is so much better to shoot. My buddies kicks like a mule! I am still in search for a Sweet 16. Great guns!
That's the sweet 16 that I have. When my son was born, I bought a A5 belgium 12 to add to the collection of A5s to pass down. I just need a 20ga to go with the set.

I've got a Belgium made Standard 16 with 26" plain barrel mod choke. Also has a 24" rifle sighted buck barrel. It shoots 2"-3" groups at 75 yards.

Around here, a lot of folks use low brass 2 3/4" 12 gauge with 7 shot or smaller (smaller in terms of pellet diameter) and with an improved cylinder. Beats the hair off your arm after a few boxes....but effective.

Beautiful pup!

Me and my son hit up a public field and killed 30.

First time I’ve been on a public field where the birds flew too low, lol

Remington 11-87 Prefer #9s with a full choke early season and #7 1/2s with a mod choke as the weather cools and the birds put on more feathers.
Love to shoot a bird

I shoot an improved choke because I am a terrible shot and Indiana requires steel on public land which patterns a bit tighter than led. Modified is a good place to start.
I started shooting an improved cylinder and smaller shot at ducks and saw my hit ratio go way up. Give me a dense but wide pattern going as fast as possible and close birds all day. Heck with pass shooting and sky busting.

It’s nice when everything goes as planned.

I've realized I don't shoot well enough to have a prayer when it doesn't. I shoot better than I used to after buying a clay thrower. May join the local sporting clays course at some point and sit there and practice the high bird. But for now I set decoys 20 yards out and don't shoo birds past the decoys. I either clobber them or go home empty handed
