Down side of 1 stick climbing

The area I have been hunting is a mixture of red oak and long leaf pine. The red oak trees are normally skinny, twisted trees that are generally unsafe to climb so I find myself almost always hunting from pine trees. The plus side is the pine trees are normally telephone poles that are easy to climb. The down side is they are noisy and shed a lot of bark during the climb. I tried the one stick method on pines trees and it seemed that I made a lot more noise than hanging three sticks. Has anyone had any luck with reducing noise one sticking up pine trees? Or just more practice?

Yup If you don’t rappel down one sticking is not worth doing

^this, 100%.

aside from that all the other “negatives”I’ve seen in his thread can pretty much be rolled up in basically any climbing method. Loud trees are loud, no matter how you climb if you don’t take your time. Limby trees are a pain with one stick or several, so on and so forth. Give it a shot, maybe see if anyone is nearby to try their set up before you buy.

So in this video example it’s :30 longer at the base of the tree for packing up 4 sticks vs managing ropes etc for the one stick. I’d say that’s a lot closer in time than what most people believe.

Did some testing today with 4 sticks and a Knaider vs one sticking. I’ll be the first to say I need much more practice at one sticking and times and beliefs might change. But as it sits right now, it took me 11:15 to complete 3 moved and then step onto a separate platform. 4 sticks with a Knaider was 8:00 to step onto a platform. I was about 6 feet higher with the sticks.
Climbing down and packing up took me 5:30 with the one stick and 6:15 with the 4 sticks. So total for one stick was 16:45 and 4 sticks was 14:15.
I actually think I may have been quieter with the one stick, but things were a little sketchy because of a slightly leaning tree.
