So I was going to fish the rope of my Doyle's hoist through my backpack so that it never had to come out of the backpack. Well the rope slid through my fingers and got sucked back into the hoist. I open up the housing and got the rope but now it does not retract anymore. Anybody got any tips on what to do? I looked on YouTube but couldn't find anything

You need to wind the spring a few turns and clamp the rope outside and reassemble and test. If it needs more, wind it more. Too much and the rope will probably not come out all the way.

I did the same thing and it took me a few tries to get it to work. I was thinking I couldn't fix it so I ordered another one. Mine is the strap version. The spring in the center has to be just right for you to wind it so it retracts. Keep at it because I panicked and right after I ordered the new one I fixed the old one so now I have two. Good luck.

Moral of the story.....pull out 5-6ft of the strap or rope and tie a knot to ensure u don't have the same issues that this thread is about..... @Letemgrowitllshow EWO doyle pouch is a really good product....I used to switch between my backpack and a fanny pack and it was a pain to tie and untie everytime... With EWO pouch u do that 1 time and then u can switch up and never have to mess with it again.

I looked at that the other day and should have just bought it. I use the same pack all year so it'll live in that pocket for the time being.

But yeah, definitely pull out an arms length and tie a knot. Don't be daydreaming and just untie the sucker. You'll be ticked haha

I have the strap version and the strap would make relatively loud noise when the strap rub against the metal grommets I added to pack... @DanO got it right with the doyles pouch...thanks for making it available to us
