Easiest method for screw in steps?

My take...
The junk screw ins are exactly what you paid for. They suck. But they suck a whole lot less with an installment tool. None the less, even with the tool, those steps are hard hard to pack and they don't work well in tight spaces.
Cranfords are the best if you want screw ins, but if you can use those, then why not use bolts?
You can preset bolts with a cordless and do several trees in a day.
For in-season hunts, get a Treehopper drill and get the folding handle. It will take you 10-15 min to drill to avg hunting height, but after that, bolts are lightning fast to remove and pack.
I have 100 cranfords and I love them. They are collecting dust since I switched to bolts.

Man i like how versatile that

I really like how versatile that sounds. I think that would really work good with what I have to work with! Is the 3/8 bolts also how you would go?

As far as screw in steps, the best ones are Cranford EZ Climb steps

Thanks for the pic I'm all the time wondering if I'm looking at the right thing!! Them looking bad handy!!
Cranford also makes a "deluxe" model that does not fold (the lag folds but the step doesnt). They dont pack as well but I think they are a little easier to use, but thats just an opinion.

So does the step fold behind the threads instead of in front of the foot flat?

The deluxe folds at the lag. The lag at a retainer pin and the lag folds into the body of the step (which would be the vertical section that rests against the tree). But the body of the step itself does not fold...its in a fixed 90 degree form. The standard ezclimb fold in 2 places...at the lag, and on the step.
