EWO Ultimate Stick Attachment vs traditional cam buckle

I did a search in here about the EWO USA and didn’t find a whole lot talking about how it compares to other attachment methods such as just the traditional cam buckle on climbing sticks.

Wondering if anyone can talk about their thoughts on how these compare to traditional cam buckles. Considering getting these for my beast sticks. I’m most concerned about how secure and tight they hold the sticks more than anything. Been using the regular cam buckles because of how easy they are to set and how tight they hold the sticks, but would be way ok with lightening up on the carry weight of them with something that’s equivalent in security/tightness to the tree.

I made one for a friend for his one stick set up. He likes it better than the cam buckle just for the lack of the metal buckle itself. I used it for a bit just to test and make sure I didn't send him falling off a tree after making it for him. I don't think they get any tighter than daisy chained amsteel and definitely not tighter than the daisy chain/trucker's hitch combo. The prusik gets pretty tight on the USA attachment and two hands are necessary if the tree changes diameter (you can't just hook and pull with one hand like a cam buckle.)
The diameter and feel of the ropes won't be the same but try using your linesman with a prusik to attach one of the sticks to get an idea of what you'd be dealing with.

I’ve used a custom stick with cam buckle, hawk stick with cam buckle, a muddy stick and have an EWO stick. I much prefer the EWO cleat simply because it comes free cleanly and i can disconnect it easily with one hand. This is especially handy when working around limbs and such. The cam buckle loop comes free also but then you have a weighted end flailing around. Maybe it’s just me, I just find the EWO build easier to use. The cleat is like the muddy in that regard.

Never thought about trying with the linesman rope and prusik to test. Cool idea! Thanks!

I'm going to give the USA a try next season on my sticks. I don't know if I will use it the way it was intended just looping the prusik on the button or try it this way....

Cool thanks! Wouldn’t have thought to use it like this.

Just ordered a set of USAs. Going to replace daisy chains. Time will tell how well i’ll like them.

I bought 6 or 8 inch continuous loops from The Amsteel Guy and made my own USAs.
I'll definitely try that method in the video above...

Anyone tried the USA with scout solo? Curious if the solo’s camming action takes up enough slack to get as tight as cam buckle

If you’re gonna use the prusik as a modified truckers hitch, why not just stick with the daisy chain and do the same thing only instead of tying you pull it tightly to the link it falls on?

I used the daisy and truckers hitch all last year on sticks and predator xl and it worked great for both. I got these USA ropes and like them a little better with the truckers hitch only because it is easier to feed the tag end through the prusik loop than it is the daisy loops (with gloves on). I know that isn't much of a reason, but slight advantage to USA.

I understand. My bigger concern is dyneema is not prone to holding knots as well so slipping would be a likely failure point. With the daisy chain loops there’s no knot. However back feeding it with gloves would definitely be easier.
What was the issue with just using the prusik as intended and looping it to the versa button and cinching it down? I must be out of the loop on the flaws of the attachment system

I found that using the prusik as the truckers hitch loop got the platform and sticks much much tighter than just trying to loop the prusik and sliding to tighten. A lot of times it pulls so tight that I can't cam the platform over, so there is a sweet spot to use. I do wrap the tag end back around/under the other side of the post like a normal rope mod so that is what keeps a lot of the potential slipping pressure off of the prusik (I think).

I’ve used daisy chains and usa. I like the versatility of the usa. Can use the prusik, can use prusik as a hitch, or can just use rope mod. Definitely beefier and easier to work with for me.

this is interesting. I just picked up a set of hawks with versa strap. The V strap takes some effort separating the straps to hook over the button.
this looks like just hook pull and go! What size amsteel is used 1/4?

I had same issue with versa straps. Too hard to fiddle with hanging. I have the standard USA ropes. I think they are 1/4. Contact Sam (Amsteel Guy) and he can direct you to what would do best with your setup.

I ordered the Beast Aiders when they were released for my USAs. Definitely a game changer. Allows one handed operation of the prusik. Works well

i watched a few videos on that last night. need to get everything dialed in and PRACTICE! lol

It’s an Amsteel on Amsteel prussic that binds down hard and allows some sag to occur before catching. Tried it once and tossed in the pile of crap to never use again.
