Exodus broadhead anecdote

I recently got a brand new deer target and shot about 15 field points into the replaceable block part of it. None penetrated all the way through I’d guess they went about half way. Decided to shoot an exodus at it and it penetrated all the way through first try, same weight and arrow as the field points. I haven’t used these on a deer yet but it seemed like a promising sign.

I don’t shoot them but they did really well in John Lusk’s testing videos. They are known for great penetration.

They have always flown good for me and are pretty dang tough. No complaints from me.

We can’t use them in NY they’re considered a “barbed” broadhead. The deer has to be able to reach back and remove their arrow so we can’t shoot anything that is greater than 90 degrees at the rear of the broadhead where it meets the arrow shaft. I have heard good things about them though.

There’s a “swept” model and a “full” model. The swept version is what is usually considered barbed. You should be able to use the full model.

Thanks. I’ve gone the full COC route for my Broadheads but that is good to know for my classes.
The exodus is kind of a coc type of head the way the point flows directly into the blades vrs a classic muzzy type of head.

I also sharpen mine. Takes no time at all. Based on difference in blade behavior between sharp and dull blades, I see no reason the tips won’t see a similar increase in effectiveness and efficiency. All it takes pull strokes on sandpaper.

Nice I’ll have to try that.

I love my Exodus. Had two pass throughs last year. The first blew through a doe and busted the front leg bone - on the far side - in two. Sure as heck beats my old Slick Tricks and my failed attempts at single bevel Cutthroats.

many people, myself included, consider them the best fixed, replaceable blade broadhead ever made

i've shot muzzy (back in the day when USA made), wasp, and others....and no others come close for me

their design, blade thickness, and short steel ferrule makes them stronger and more durable than many of the 1 piece heads

I have been trying to shoot them for many years but always end up trying something else and I haven’t been satisfied. I always end up falling back on slick trick standards. This is the year I finally buy them.

if legal in your state, i'd suggest the swept

there is no difference in strength and the swept fly slightly better and are slightly more quiet

i'm not worried about the barbedness as far as ethics because the only time my arrow is staying in the deer is on a heavy bone hit and then i don't think it matters (at least i'd guess it matters very little)

Another Exodus believer, long time user. I think I’ve resharpened and reused same head on multiple deer.

The blade angle on the swept is a little more steep. Meaning the blades are longer but the cutting diameter is the same. Theoretically should be better for penetration, but the difference is slight.

Good to know, thanks!

Had a whoops and shot the hook on my ratchet strap I had wrapped around the target. Bent the tip slightly and nicked the blade pretty good. Still flies true though. Not bad considering the hook is steel.
