First Saddle Kill

It’s been a rough couple years. I’ve had some self inflicted issues (target panic) that led to poor form and some rushed shots. Anyway, we’ve had at least 15” of snow for about 2 weeks, and temps have struggled to get over 20°. A week ago I picked up 80 pounds of a deer feed mixture at a local shoe store and put out a bag to help out the local deer on my own 16 acres. I had noticed that they were digging through the deep snow to get down to the clover and turnips that are there already. Within 24 hours I was having 4 to 6 does show up regularly during daylight hours. So I decided it’s time for a freezer filler mission. About 4:40 PM Friday, January 28, they started coming in. The first one was a button buck so I held off. The second deer was a doe fawn from this year as well. The third one was a good bit bigger so I let one fly. My arrow zipped through right behind the shoulder. She Took off and stopped about 70 yards away trying to figure out what happened. And then she started wobbling and I saw her go down. Fresh venison! I honestly kinda hate the idea of hunting over bait but in these late season conditions it seems almost necessary. First saddle kill, first late season deer, and first self filmed deer kill as well.

Great job and awesome photos! Dragging them in that deep of snow isn't always fun but awesome photo

Meat in the freezer. That's what matters not the method used my friend. So long as it's legal. Congrats and nice shot. Why not post the vid? I'd wanna watch her drop too,

That's it, rub it in that you still have an open deer season. :tongueclosed:

Congratulations - I agree with you on the baiting, however it's legal on private land in Ohio so hey, late season when the freezer needs to be filled there's no better way. Got my first saddle harvest and first archery kill in 10+ years of putting down the bow. Great job Sir

Man, I haven't seen you since saddle Palooza 2020. Congrats and you are a true warrior out in those conditions. This is coming from a guy who lives in Florida and wears long Johns anytime below 50° LOL.
Thanks for sharing and love the pictures

Congratulations on a fine shot, a fine doe and a good hunt!
I see you are an Elite shooter too. :) I just purchased an Elite Ritual 30, as a retirement gift to myself. Love it!

need to get yourself one of those jet sleds. drags em over snow like there's nothing behind you. works on any ground but snow is a breeze.
