First Time Climbing with Spurs

Does anyone have any ideas on how to replace the Velcro on the climb right aluminum pads? They are supposedly the most comfortable out there by far, but the noise of the Velcro is a no-go.

What do they look like? Pic? My geckos came with Velcro, and I ended up removing all of it and replacing it with cinch buckles.

I remember using a climber and then i found a saddle. Way more comfortable than any climber in my honest opinion. I have sold all my climbers to those who cant grasp the saddle. :grinning:

Lol I haven't used my hang ons or climbers in years but I just can't bring myself to sell them "just in case" it's the same reason I have a fully equipped ghost blind with extensions in my closet that I've only used a couple of times

In fact, if anyone ever wants to see a "tree lounge" with all the bells and whistles, you can come visit Ernie's evolution of hunting museum

Those are very similar to the geckos. I removed the Velcro and sewed some buckles on to replace them. I'll work on getting a couple of pictures for you

I've been using my spurs a good bit this year but only during the windy days because the leather of the t pads squeak.
How can I get the squeak out of the t pads?
I don't know about the T-pads, but I was amazed that a wrap of hockey tape on the buckles made it a LOT quieter. there is still a little noise, but it doesn't ring like Santa's sleigh for 5 miles.

I'm trying to get comfy in them, as I have a hunt coming up in 2 weeks, basically going in blind and the "Google Earth Scouting" looks to be about 3/4 mile in.

Win lose or draw that is such a fun way to hunt. The excitement is off the charts. Don't get me wrong - a preset stand over a well used funnel between bedding areas during the rut is wicked fun - but going in blind adds a little something extra to the hunt for me.

It's not typically my style to encourage anything unlawful but the circumvention of the " not damaging the trees" law couldn't possibly be more justifiable.

I find that government folks in Natural Resources/Environmental departments HIGHLY over-rate the impact humans can have. Of course, they are so full of themselves in PA, that they actually will fence off parts of the forest to keep the deer out. Why? Because the deer eat too many trees. Yep, that's their stated reason.
If you believe in a Creator than I think She/He probably is better at managing the forest than a bunch of appointed bureaucrats. If you believe in evolution, then I'm pretty sure nature has found a balance over past few hundred million years that is better than some appointed bureaucrats.

If the deer eat too many trees than they won't have enough food growing for the future. Then some will die. That means less trees will be eaten so more can grow. Then when those grow, there will be more food which can support a larger population of deer. I'm pretty sure that will work itself out without any human intervention.

There are 1 million hunters in PA. There are 8 billion trees. Maybe half of those hunters hunt public land heavily. Maybe 1/20th of them would use spurs or screw in steps. Most would use ladders or nothing. I'm getting in the neighborhood of 25,000 hunters... Even if they all actually did kill a tree or two in the course of their hunting experience it doesn't impact the environment. Heck, maybe that maple they kill dies and fertilizes an Oak tree that feeds the forest for 100 years.

Thank you sir!!!! So there you have it, either way all is well. I personally subscribe to a Creator and for too many reasons to list on this forum. And as for the appointed bureaucrats, blah blah blah!!!! Dummies in suits.

I'll probably still go with sticks when on forestry property due to the number of rangers and required check in stations etc... but I don't plan on hunting them very often anyways because of the blaze orange requirement.

Last week I was at a local archery range and chatted with another shooter. He told me that a PA conservation officer stopped him in the field. He was told that he could be cited for damage the teeth of his summit do to the tree. That is ridiculous.

#huntersLivesMatters .. Thats all.

I've been using mine all fall. On softer trees, they are awesome, but I need to put a sharper/finer tip on them for some of the oaks. I don't like to stab hard because of the noise. I would rather set the point and then add weight. But I have been gaffing out of the harder oaks with that process.

Yeah I have that same issue sometimes. I agree about the noise when you have to kick them in, so I do the same thing you said when as much as possible

I know a guy who took a pee outside of his cabin, in the woods, miles from the nearest cabin and even further from any type of civilization. A DCNR truck drove by while he was rehydrating the soil. A few hours later another DCNR truck pulls in. He said that his female boss sent him out to write a citation for public urination after she witnessed driving to work.

Yes, I saw the citation the next day. They actually cited him for public urination in the woods!!! Too much time. Too much power. Not enough ways to actually add value... PA DCNR is a waste of money giving some folks who couldn't pass a police officer exam a way to have some artificial power based only on their job, not the experience, intention or intelligence that they bring to it.

That is totally messed up!
