Flex Order Questions - **UPDATED**

I have been lurking and reading mostly the past few months and I am ready to order my first saddle.
I have decided on a AH Flex and had a few questions about ordering.

I am thinking of ordering with the starter kit and wondering if this is a good idea or would I be better off trying to make my own accessories out of that $116?
I am not an extreme tinkerer but I do like to customize some of my gear from time to time.
Having never used a saddle I figured this would be a good base to start from to have everything I need out of the box and I could tinker later once I figure out what works well for me and what doesn't. Thoughts?

I want to order in the fastest method possible from AH.
From reading on here I see there are some things that take longer depending on your choices.
My question: Is there a thread that shows these long lead options?
Example: I want Predator camo but I would settle for ASAT if the lead time was shorter.

For Reference: I want a size 2 Flex in Predator with adjustable webbing bridge

I’m waiting on a “custom” Kestrel from AH today, meaning I called them and was able to make some adjustments to the stock model to speed up delivery and get more adjustability. Since I ordered pretty recently (7/20 I believe), I recommend the following based on my own dealings:
1. Call AeroHunter. Their number(s) are right at the bottom of the website (what a novel idea to make your CuServ representatives available by phone?). There are only a handful of very knowledgeable people working the phones and emails, and they have been nothing but accommodating and responsive to me. This also ensures that they can track, and probably recall mentally, your order details if needed. They did for me. Debbie is a beast.
2. Webbing bridge will probably speed things up for you as Predator Rope goes in and out of stock like a fart in the wind, and for good reason: it’s the bomb in large-mm hunting rope. It’s easy to make a rope bridge later if you decide to go that route, though, and from what I’ve been hearing, upgrading to the webbing bridge on my standard Kestrel (to shorten shipping times) was a good idea. Size 2 is also less popular I believe, but it shouldn’t really affect lead times since they pretty much sew each saddle a la carte.
3. Camo options are all dope. I’d get whatever is fast TYD, but to be fair, it’s important to look cool lol.
4. CALL. I can’t stress enough how helpful AH is on the phone and how much fudging sense it makes for a safety-harness manufacturing company to be available for their customers’ questions in a personal, personable manner. All safety-harness manufacturing companies should do this! That’s also why I only bought HSS harnesses before saddling up. You will have a good experience on the phone rather than online IMO.

AND HAVE FUN!

As for the equipment, Tethrd’s ropes are hard to beat out-of-box, and I’m sure there are a few coupon codes for orders over $100. Or make your own ropes by doing a bit of homework on the right diameters and such. Just keep in mind that anything you make is also yours to mistake, so stay frosty as you tie your knots and pick your carabiners, etc.

Good luck! Don’t just go on one guy’s input, either (my wife would say my opinion garners a second opinion :smirk:). Get AH’s input as well as the other guys here and take your dive when you’re ready. I had that saddle in my cart for a week or two before calling, then I ordered on the spot when I was ready to talk with AH by phone.

I share your pain, brother. I’ve elected to wait the rush out. After this big saddle bonanza is over, reality will settle in and normalcy in reasonable order/shipment will return. I have my eyes on the Yarak, but I already know it won’t be a reality this season. Hang in there!

There have already been a good number of Mantises posted and sold over the last few days, since Tethrd had a pretty decent push last week and some ppl have either resold because they’re geniuses of supply and demand, or they just didn’t prefer the Mantis.
Some AH and Yarak should be posted, though probably not as many at once. Keep your eyes peeled, gems show up all the time.

I ordered mine the first day they were available. Flex size 2 Predator camo with the rope bridge and I knew that I would have to wait on it because they couldn't get Predator rope. I could have got mine sooner with the web bridge but I was in no hurry in fact I just put it on one time since I got it June. When the Kestrel first came out I got one of them. You could order the hole system and tell them to send the saddle only if the tether and lineman's rope aren't available right now or you could call Wesspur and order Predator rope from them and they can even splice an eye in it for you.I have been dealing with Areohunter for over two years and they are awesome to work with and they will bend over backwards to help you. As far as things settling down they'll just come up with a new saddle next year and it will start all over again..

I'm not sure what your seasons are, but I'm thinking you may be going without if you want a Flex for this season unless you find someone selling one used.

I have a hang on stand and sticks to get me by until my saddle arrives and I get some practice with it... I am actually going to be working 7/12's until about mid-November. Not sure what the current lead times are but if they can get it to me in about 2 months I should be OK.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I will definitely call AH today to speak with them about my options.

I would get the kit if you are new to this....Use it a while and then you can modify your kit if so desired based on actual experience with the saddle....Just my opinion and not necessarily the only right one lol ....

Update: I just ordered my Flex - Size 2 (with kit)
Predator Camo
Rope Bridge w/carabiner
12' tree tether

I talked to Debbie and she said the order would most likely ship around the first week of November.
The choices that I made really didn't matter on the shipping date.
The Predator Rope for the bridge was fully stocked and was not an issue.
She said the tether and lineman's ropes were the ones they were running short of but they had them in stock now and more ordered.

Just need to get my platform ordered. I am still undecided between the Ridge Runner and Predator.
I think the Ridge Runner fits my style a little more but the Predator packs so nice and thin.

I have a few adjustments to make to my climbing setup and I think I will be ready for this year.

The Ridge Runner just got delivered today. After handling a Predator I am very happy with my choice. Granted this choice was made off of the size of my feet (size 15).

I'm curious about this... I have seen several comments about choosing the Ridge Runner over the Predator because of larger feet.
The Predator is 11.75" deep and the Ridge Runner is only 8" deep. Wouldn't there be more room front to back on the Predator?

BTW... My Ridge Runner is ordered and should be here in 2 weeks. :)

I actually cancelled my order for an aerohunter flex. I decided not to wait the 10 weeks. I believe a rock climbing harness with a DIY fleece Saddle is a viable option for me. Especially since I am 56 and not even sure if saddle hunting is a good option for me yet.

See if they have a kestral in stock... it is outstanding and VERY close to the flex in features. I have a kestral and Ive been more than happy with it. IF they have ropes etc in stock then get the kit. IF not, then get them from Tethrd. As you get more comfortable down the road, modify as desired. I am now changing my tethr, LMB etc to other options but the kit has been fantastic. Tom

My Ridge Runner will be delivered today. :)

I sent an email to Aero Hunter to change from the Rope Bridge to the Adjustable Webbing Bridge.
I could always change to a rope bridge later. The webbing seems to be the popular choice from most of you guys so I'll give it a shot.

You won't regret it one bit. I was totally against the webbing bridge until I tried it. webbing is all Ill get from now on.

Also agree on the webbing bridge, had the rope on my kestrel and evo but the webbing with the tri glide is way nicer. Not a big fan on the coating inside the flex though. Liked the kestrel better in that reguard.
