So my in laws live down in Florida outside of Brooksville. So a lot of years I have spent after Christmas to new years or later down there. Keep wondering about deer hunting down there. Looks like there Zone C maybe touching B.
What could I expect that time of year if I try to give hunting a go. Pressure? Deer activity? How big do they get in that area.
I'm coming from Michigan. So trying to see how it would compare.
Thanks

How does it compare to Michigan? I don't think it does.

Temps are warm even in December. If we're lucky it will be in the 60s. Last year it was still in the 80s in December. Most of the big WMAs are pressured hard. Green Swamp, Ocala. Both ruts don't start until Late December Early Jan. I've seen a few big bucks. 8 and bigger.

Depending on the rain is going to depend if you're going through no water or a foot of water.

In my opinion, if you don't scout and put your time in for Florida, you're not going to find a thing. One of the hardest states to hunt.

I’m not that far south but we have some decent places in Taylor county. It’s harder hunting than people can imagine but is not impossible. Our rut is nothing like the Midwest. I’ve seen bucks chasing In September all the way into February. We just got too many does. But if you’re willing to walk a ways and can find sign, it’s likely you’ll have a good time. Pm me and I can help you out.

So reviving this thread about hunting hogs. If what I see is correct, you don't need a license to hunt Hogs in the citrus WMA. But do you still any kind of license? Or stamp?
Do you need a permit to drive the WMA?
Can you park any where? Or do you have to park in certain spots?
I don't see anything specific for weapons for Hogs.
Is there lots of Hogs out there? I don't have huge expectations other than an adventure.
Just don't want to do anything wrong and get a ticket for something stupid.

The dates u plan to be there would be helpful.....quick glance over the wma brochure and there is quotas required for certain dates and none required for others....u still gonna need a management area permit...residents it's like 26 bucks. Most wma have designated entrances to an interior road system. As long as u aren't obstructing roads or gates u can park anywhere once inside the wma

Gonna be in in Florida Dec. 30? Thru the 6th potentially..may change due to weather. Going the end of February would be better, but to maximize time off its between Christmas and New years. We shut down Christmas to new years. So get extra days for free. I see there is Deer hunting I think until the 1st. Can you still hunt pigs at the same time?

You don’t need a hunting license but you will need an area permit. There are a ton of hogs all over Florida. I have yet to go to or talk to someone at any WMA that hasn’t ran across hogs on the regular

You can hunt hogs during any season except turkey. Archery, muzzle, general gun, and small game are all legal to hunt hog. As weldabeast mentioned February 25th an awesome hog hunt about 40 minutes from Brooksville will be taking place ;)

I’m Madison county just north and they are still running hard right now

That's the way I read it. So to hunt hogs u just need management area permit and if u want to try to kill a deer u need hunting licence, management area permit, deer permit

Citrus wma no licence needed for hog, however you do need the wma permit also there is a quota hunt the weekend you are referring to. Only people withe the quota can hunt during that time. You can legally start hunting hogs jan 3rd. For a helpful hint for hogs in citrus stay on the south end. Either around Lizzie hart sink or on the south side of stage coach road. Maybe I'll see you out there. Also you mite have better luck with hogs in homosassa wma, but you'll have to check the dates as they open and close multiple times for small game, and there is a daily quota of 25 people back there at a time.

Whats the terrian like in southern Citrus there? Rubber boots? Normal? Little bit of everything? What are the trees like? DRT or One stick? Or could be either?
What's the weapons available? Says no center fire. So can't use my 44mag rifle? Can I use my crossbow?
Thanks.
