FPS really that important?

My set up really wasn’t what I was was questioning, it was just a question that I had go through my mind and figured I’d ask the forum. But I’ll give my set up anyway
Elite Remedy 60# 31.5” shooting 755grn with I believe to be 18-19% Foc ( I didn’t do the measure to figure it but I know I’m close ) my limbs are 50-60# I’m guessing I’m just at 220fps( never chrono ) and the only reason I’m at 60 and not 50 is because I keep training to rebuild my very busted and repaired shoulder and back.

Again the question was really just out of curiosity after a conversation I was having.

My arrows weigh about 570 grains.and I shoot 30" draw out of a 60# Bow. These clock in at 243 fps, which is more than fast enough for me. I rarely shoot over 30,except for practice. My single pin is set at 25 and I am 2.5 "high at 20 and 2.5" low at 30,so i don't have to adjust my aim at all really. I aim for the top of the heart/bottom third on shots from the ground, higher from a tree.

Sounds like a killer to me. If you know how it shoots knock them down.

I assume a majority of us watch thp....we all get to see how the heavies do in the real world...I hope they can capture a deer barely act hit and die inside 20yds on film.
The THP video RF sampled in his shot placement series made it less than 50 IIRC. Blowing blood out of his muzzle, toppled over on camera. I thought that was pretty compelling.

I've had that a few times with mechanicals and taw a tad over 400.
I don't doubt it....
What style mechanical? The blades flip over or the blades go out the back or what... U would think that the animal would feel the "action" (for lack of a better word) of the blades deploying. I assumed in my head when I watch the videos of kills with mechanicals and the deer are hauling for the hills that they felt a weird thing happen. I haven't killed enough critters to make a really educated anything....I just know my 2 with fixed 2 blade both died less than 20yds from impact and the deer before those I got with mechanical reacted much different

I've seen it from a tree a couple of times :) They are bound to get it on video.

1 with a 3 Blade Grim Reaper, the others a 2 Blade Rage. All smaller 8pts, probably 1&1/2 yr olds, one was nice enough that maybe it was older. Hasn't happened in awhile. I've been targeting bigger bucks for some time, so maybe that has something to do with it.

So u where getting better results on smaller deer and larger deer u aren't having the same performance is what I am reading correct?....

I’m 100% pass thrus on all my deer. And have had mechanicals pass thru shoulder on nice bucks.

But the ones that didn’t react to the hits were smaller 8 pts.

There hasn’t been a difference in kill rate success.

Accurate statement. Counter argument from a slow arrow trad perspective is instinctive shooting makes knowing the yardage pointless. ;)

Also, a slow arrow will have a closer point on distance (where tip of arrow is your exact sight reference) than a fast bow (all else equal....such as anchor point, arrow length, and general bow tune). Some folks add weight in part to make their point on exactly 25 yards, etc.

The number one reason hunters miss is still yardage estimation. So yes speed does matter. The slower the arrow the smaller your error in judgement has to be. Even with a fast bow a 5yd error is a miss at a certain distance(probably 40yds +-)

In the preseason before reality sets in everyone uses a rangefinder every time, but then you jump the buck of a lifetime walking to your stand and he stops at 28yds and you shoot him for 20 with your 240fps bow and you soon figure out that speed does matter.

A ****ty hit with a heavy arrow is still just that. If that deer is starting to whirl the deer itself, the leg and shoulder blade are all in motion and it sucks the energy right out of your arrow which usually results in a high spine hit and there isnt anything fatal there no matter how hard you pray that there was.

Trad guys and women benefit from a heavier arrow to a point because of where they top out at in setup. For your avg person a heavy arrow for deer is a dumb choice IME.
