GA Deer Coming On Strong

Agreed. UGA deer lab has guys stationed at blue ridge WMA studying the decline population. The main contributing factor appears to be lack of fawn recruitment. Mainly due to increased predator numbers and lack of good fawn hiding spots. I actually talked to them while i was scouting, and they pretty much told me we were crazy for wanting to deer hunt there. There are a few big ones, but they are sparse
Fawn recruitment has been rough. As prey species dwindle the predators do also so they will bounce back to a new normal. There are still isolated pockets with good populations.

Timber harvest... or lack of. That is what is hurting the mountain populations. Closed canonpy forests are not great for holding wildlife, and the mountains are covered with it.

That certainly matches what I have seen over the last few years. Just getting onto deer seems to be tough, and trust me I have done a ton of scouting over the last couple of summers as well as in-season. Wish they would put better limits on the overall amount of deer allowed to be taken each year.

Well this year i know, blue ridge, coopers creek and CNF east of 75 is all buck only, so maybe that'll help.

I think they should open a summer bear check in rifle hunt , thatd help right
