I shot an ILF rig for 7 years. A Tradtech Titan III with some Dryad limbs. Then I switched to a Mathews Triax for the last 5 years since I didn’t have time to stay consistent enough to hunt while also raising my 3 young boys.

Now the kids are a little older and love shooting their bows with dad. The compound just isn’t fun to shoot with them. Now I have two bows inbound!

I have always been intrigued by Das bows and I’m fittin to find out about em. I have a Das DX5 with Winnex limbs in the mail. I really want to get a set of longbow limbs for it. I have never shot a longbow. And now, I’m going to pick up a Das Tribute on Sunday!

I am very excited to start shooting this type of bow again. Nobody that I know shoots trad. I just needed to vent to some people that might understand.

Welcome Back! :)

Great choice on the DAS risers.
I have a 2005 Gen I lefty that shots like dream.
No other riser and limb combo, that I have shot compares to the DAS system.
I don't think that the limb angles on the riser are setup for long bow limbs, you could do it, but performance may suffer.
If you can, do a little research on the DAS riser, it is very interesting to see the evolution.
Visit the traditional forum for ALOT of info on the DAS risers.

On a similar journey as you. Started with traditional then to compound then to longbow then back to to compound bow this all happened over several decades.
I recently pulled out the my old recurves and longbows and I am going to give it a try again next season. I have had to lift weights and work out to gain the strength back to shoot.
Will be practicing this off season. I’m once again pumped up to work on my old skills.
I hope you enjoy your return back as well.

I would love a gen 1!

I know quite a bit about the Das bows and their history. It’s fascinating really. I just never owned one. The DX5 is specifically designed for longbow limbs. The one I’m buying used just happened to have recurve limbs on it.

I need to design an endless loop string jig. I have all the materials to make strings but never got around to making a jig. I wonder if it’s worth making or buying. Any string makers in here?

I will be 60 next year, and just started shooting a trad bow (recurve) for the first time in October. Even ended up getting a few Doe with it. I try to shoot around 20 arrows at various distances every other day. It’s pure fun to just shoot in the backyard. I really wish I had given this a try sooner, but better late than never.

@JSEXTON23 and @Razorbak66 may can help you with an endless loop.

Endless loops are on my DAS and DX5 and all of my bows. Works better than Flemish in my opinion heck I don’t like to make Flemish anymore lol. Making an endless jig can be real simple or extreme Your choice. Easiest to make is get some uni strut and couple bolts and washers and nuts and a couple of nails and couple 2x4s and couple rods and your in business and it will work but won’t last in long run. Auto man on the archery talk site has a real nice endless jig build in the DIY section

I got the bows! Now to save up for some quality longbow limbs.

Here is a pic of my current collection:
Top: black bear warf milled by Sam Dunham with SF limbs.
Middle: new to me Das DX5 with Winnex limbs.
Bottom: new to me Das Tribute riser.
