Got sticks

I'm going to give it a solid try a handful of times but 3 sticks and aider looks more simple with less movement and chance for something bad to happen.

Give it an honest fair effort of practicing and report back.

Got a question, why do y'all use the mini-stick for this method and not a regular length stick? I got the cam cleat mod and understand why but why a short stick, just for packability? Thanks

PS- What is the thing from @DanO? Can you use any stick or is this type stick preferred over others for some reason by the one stickers?

I generally only use the bottom step anyway when I one stick. If I stand on the top step and slide my rope up the tree, I can't reach the cleat to move the stick. If you try it it will be self explanatory.

My experience is the same!!

How high do you hunt where you need 6 steps? 3 steps and one aider between ground and first stick gets me well over the height of my normal stands. Not knocking just wondering what terrain makes you need to get up that high out of interest.
It's not that I need 6 sticks, but 4 to 5 to get up in the 20'/25' range. so, two sets of 3 to make sure I get where I like to be. The pine flatwoods and cypress stands can be open with not much cover, one needs to get up a little ways to stay out of sight plus I like being that high to aid in scent controll.

Wow, more reason to one stick lol

Me too. The only time I step up to the top step is after I set my platform. I'm not as flexible as @Squirrels. I set my srick with the cleat at eye level or slightly above. I get between 3.5 and 4' per move of the stick. 4 moves puts me right around 20 feet. I'm at height and on my platform in 10-12 minutes after approaching the tree.

I see my one stick brothers have this covered, good job fellas

One sticking and rappelling down is the cat’s ass. If your finding it strenuous to get up the tree then shorten your aider. You may find that you have to make one or two extra moves, depending on how high you want to climb, but it’s really a non factor.

Little details like that are helpful. I gathered that from you videos when I started one sticking a while back but I had to watch the video several times

I just ordered heliums to give this a shot. I've been thinking hard about it for the last month.

Hanging around you guys is really expensive....

My one stick and rappel setup ain’t cheap. But it’s light, compact, and simple. Saddle hunting and chasing ducks are similar in the drainage of my fun money. Duck hunting is worse only because the toys are bigger and the big ones are motorized!!!

Pay close attention these guys using bottom step only or maybe Cain spanning bottom to top. I did not pay attention and my first practice session was tough, you can't reach the stick to pull up if you run your tether too high. Other mistake was bridge being too long, keep it down short.. be careful stepping up and unloading tether but ... This a great method to climb and rappel down after a little practice and I didn't know what a prusick was 6 months ago!

I just couldn’t bring myself to drill holes in a beast stick for the cam cleat so I used an API stick instead.

Really looking forward to trying this out for next season. Now I suppose I need to look into some rappelling gear.

I have the harken cam, 7ft 6mm oplux, and 30 ft of 8mm oplux en route. Now I just need the descender device and a jammy. Think only mod I'm gonna do to one of my hawks is the cam at first. I can always cut it down later.

Will I even need an aider with a full length stick?

And I was searching for a helium hawk mod thread for one sticking and couldn't find it. Are there how to directions somewhere? Is it better just to buy 1 different stick?

Best descender device?

I have a daisy chain of webbing for a hammock is that safe to use with an unaltered stick to practice before altering my stick or should I just use the strap and hardware it came with?

I think an aider is crucial to the setup. A two step one at that and a cutdown stick. Others may disagree and that's fine, but it works great for me.

OK now I think I'm about to start yet another way to climb- is that Artisan platform comfortable enough for an all day sit (I am a leaner 70% of the time)? Also- do yall still use a regular platform? I am thinking about ordering a Harken clamp and some rope- what size and best source? Now I just have to decide what to sell: SRT gear, one of my TWO sets of spurs- I do like the idea of one sticking

I like how you threaded the rope through the stick. Did you do anything to prevent chafing on the rope as it exits the stick?
