Greetings from Germany (although I'm not so new here)

Most hunters over here don't drive big trucks. They have not enough maneuverability at our small ways in the woods. A Suzuki Jimny, a Lada Niva or such are much better for this.
I get it....but as a contrast...if u get 100 hunters together over here the parking lot would look totally different...

Welcome, I was stationed in Gieblestadt in 87-89. I love Germany. I’m currently in France for work. Glad to have you on the forum

Welcome from Northern Virginia. Why is bow hunting illegal?
Hi,
hunting with a bow in Germany is illegal because someone added the ban when the hunting law was changed in the 1970s (actually without sufficient scientific research, as far as I know). Back then the bow technology was not as good and efficient as it is today. Efforts are underway to allow bowhunting in Germany again, but that will probably take a while, if it ever comes to that. Until then, German bow hunters have to hunt abroad.
Animal welfare also played a major role, which is very important in Germany (even more today than in the past). You are also not allowed to hunt with handguns or a crossbow. For the hunt for larger game (roe deer, mouflon sheep, chamois, wild boar, fallow deer, red deer) certain projectile energies at 100 m (1000 and 2000 J) and caliber diameter (6.5 mm and 2000 J for all game from mouflon and up) are required that they are legal.
Many hunters (and non-hunters alike) say that killing an animal with an arrow is cruel when it can be done much more efficiently with a bullet. And as long as there are such voices (including among the hunters), and there are many of them because they have no idea about bowhunting (and they don't care), it is very difficult to change anything.

Ah. That explains a lot. Thanks for the explaination. That’s disappointing to hear. You should start a movement!! (I’m joking by the way). Perhaps there would be more traction if the arrow and/or broadhead weight was limited to a certain weight and above?

We have a bowhunting association that tries to legalize bowhunting again. But after a Danish madman killed five people with a bow and arrows in Norway last week and seriously injured others, it will be very likely become even more difficult.

What kinda terrain are you hunting?
Are the high seats like a ladder stand?
Some kill photos?
One of my kills at a driven hunt, we call them things Überläufer (Ueberlaeufer) which is the term for a wild boar up to two years old. This is a young male (Keiler).

I would describe our terrain as wooded hills, because the highest tops are about 500 m above sea level. Nothing steep.

Here is a picture of the tradition of laying out the trophies after a driven hunt:

Greetings from NOrth Carolina to Germany. I grew up in Germany, immigrated to the US over 20 years ago. Never hunted in Germany, but love it over here. Especially saddle hunting. When I tell my brother who is a hunter about it, he looks at me like I’m crazy (Als hätte ich einen Vogel….lol) Usually, I’m traveling to Germany about 3 to 4 times a year. Before Covid that is and hopefully again in 2022. However, I’d be happy to deliver a saddle or other “small” items in the future.

Hi, first of all: Thanks to all for your hearty welcome ! As I said before, saddle hunting is pretty unknown in Germany (except for a few crazy guys who do it) . In addition, it looks dangerous to climb a tree like this, and the accident insurance (UVV) does not know it either, so it is rejected for that alone. Even the climbing seats have a difficult position. The normal German hunter is usually too comfortable for something like that when he can almost drive to his comfortable high seat.

This is the Hochsitz (high seat) from my previous fotos

I have to admit that this is one of our higher seats (and the most uncomfortable because the wind is blowing through it). I've got older photos from an other hunting lease where the seats were much more airtight, if you want I can post some here.

One of our traditions, blowing the hunting bag with the hunting horns. Each species has its own signal. On the right-hand side stands the hunt leader with the "breaks" (small spruce branches), which are then handed over to the successful shooters.
