Hand climber

Got a picture? I am interested!
I do, camo cord is kinda hard to see.

So, I thought the folding problem would be if the platform is not tight enough to the tree the teeth would let go. Basically the front edge of the platform goes down? So those zip ties are going to prevent that?

I like that you put that cam strap there. I might give that a try too!

I see. That cord close to the teeth doesn't get caught when climbing? I dig it.

Have you found that wrapping the edge of the platform with paracord was worthwhile?

Your correct. The higher you go the smaller the diameter of the tree gets. My diy can't fold into itself and collapse. I just don't want anyone to get hurt

The folding problem is, for me, only an issue if I need to suspend 100% from the saddle while I adjust the traction belt. Getting set up after this WITHOUT those zip ties is a PITA. Also, I've not yet really needed 2 zip ties; 1 is so far sufficient.

The cam strap locks the platform in place when you're done climbing. It's actually backwards in those pics. Better to have it the other way so you can pull the strap when you're kneeling on that small platform, you can get more leverage.

Not yet, I made the two cords just long enough to allow full movement, a touch longer than my feet to crotch. I think since it attached to a leg strap it collects under your butt (end of the platform or off the back) as you bring your feet and platform up while climbing. That's sort of a guess since it hasn't happened I haven't paid too much attention to were it's going. I can say that the cord to the teeth make any adjustments to the belt easier. You could probably make it one continuous loop from teeth thru leg strap to stirrups, I only used two cord since it was an evolving process.

So you're talking about when you're adjusting the belt and the platform edge wants to flip up? That can be a nuisance and I see how the zip ties can help with that.

So after messing with a hand climber for a couple days I think I’m going to machine some tubes so I can use summit tree stand cables they will be a little more noisy and a little heavier but I think climbing will be easier I don’t think I will have to stop and adjust them on the way up I always set my summit viper tight at the base so it levels out higher up

Hello! Like I tell others, look at my diy climber. Save yourself the headache and literally backache

I didn’t think climbing was that difficult with a hand climber I just think with the summit cable I won’t have to stop and adjust it on the way up

Sweet if it works I'd be interested in it, the only issue that I have with the climber is that first 5 feet were the belt sometimes gets stuck. I've thought about a 3 step ladder from webbing as well or bolts since I bring them anyways for trees that can't be hand climbed. But first I'll try the 1ft of round tube around the belt first since that is the simplest way.

I have 1ft. I’m starting to think 1.5ft is the way to go.

Using an aider at the base to get the platform above the bulge of the tree base is good I think. So far I am using my tether as a redsquirrel aider, so that is convenient.

I actually bought some summit replacement cables for a project that I never got to if you're interested in buying them.

I made my arms to use summit cables on a lone wolf hand climber last night at work they are rock solid I have to wait until the rain stops to climb with them i will try to post pics , measurements and materials list later no special tools just a drill press is all you will need

Interesting, how does that hold the cable? Sorry for asking I'm not familiar with all of the Summit climbers.

There are lugs on the cable and I put a pin in front and behind the lug to keep it still
