First season saddle hunter here, currently just practicing on getting up and down the tree. I don't have a platform just yet but I do have a Muddy Bloodsport hangon stand that is just sitting in the shed. It has a flip up seat and is pretty lightweight.

My question - has anyone every attempted to cannibalize a hangon stand to use as platform? My thought being that I remove the bottom portion of the stand so it's just the back that rests against the tree and the fold down seat. I know I'll need to secure the seat so as to prevent it from flipping up, but any thoughts on this?

How much weight could just the seat support? I don’t suppose they designed it to hold the full weight of a person. Although that is what the seat does if you pick up your feet so maybe it does have to hold that much weight.

This was my concern too, but I don't any experience using a platform yet so I didn't know how much of my weight will be shifted to the platform.

You must assume that the platform has to support your full weight (plus gear) some of the time. It's true that most of the time the saddle will have some to most of your weight, but when you need to put all of your weight on the platform, it better be up to the task!

I've got one of those kicking around here as well. Was wondering the same I think side pressure may be an issue. It only has one stand off on the post. Now you could drop the seat to where the wires attached to the post putting it my in the middle of the straps. Might help may have come up with some sort of stand off for the bottom of the post. May work in a pinch.

Came from a big dog hang on stand seat. Sturdy as f@&$. All diy parts and a grade 8 bolt with nylon washers. The tree cleats are almost to sharp, when uncam the platform the hole thing sticks right to the tree
