Does anyone care a hatchet for those branches that get in the way? I was thinking smog doing that and was wondering if anyone has a link for a nice way to attach to your saddle

yea...folding saw would be my suggestion as well. i cant imagine hacking at a limb half way up a tree trying to keep quiet

X3 on the folding saw, I also carry a heavy duty anvil type pruner which is much quicker and quieter than a saw for smaller branches like those pesky thumb sized branches that are green that don't break off quietly at the base like some dead or dying branches do.

Just make sure you cut them right at the trunk, otherwise those little 2 to 3" branches are great at keep your rappel line up the tree once your down. Ask me how I know!!!!

i can usually get it past branches but I climbed up n down a tree 6 times on saturday... up once, all set up. dropped quiver. down, back up. pacxked up, rappeled down. looked up, forgot to tie my retrieval line ( i swear i forget more than i remember. i tell myself at the top "ok one more thing and then DONT forget to tie that F'in paracord"), back up and back down again...sometimes i feel like just leaving my rappel rope!

As has been mentioned, folding saw is the tool for the job but if you're looking for a hatchet, the Silky Ono is pretty sweet. Looks like the price has gone up on them a fair bit since I got mine but it's a nicely made tool as you'd expect from Silky

I love my Silky PocketBoy saw.

I need some new pruners, though. I ran in to some vines the other day that pruners would have been the right tool.

Any suggestions for good small pruners?

Here's what I use with the homemade pouch that they stow in. I carry these in my turkey vest in the spring too. Handy little items for hunting. Especially for those setups you find fresh sign around and you know you need to climb a tree nearby. saw and pruners.jpg
