I give an extra wrap with the strap over the buckle to help hold it in place & you can tuck the slack on the backside, it’s not perfect but you have to do something with the tag anyway

Being new to using an OCB buckle, have a picture of what you're talking about when you say extra wrap over the buckle?

I can take one later, just continue with the tag end in the same direction on smaller than basketball trees I can get 2 wraps plus tucking the tail in these wraps. Not perfect but a little extra pressure holding/protecting the buckle doesn’t hurt.

Friend of mines property behind his house had this stand someone else put up. You had to climb all the way up so your feet were on the top of the wooden ladder while hugging the tree, then reach over and feel your way onto the stand. Was not a lot of fun in the dark. I did it several times with no safety equipment when I was younger. Looking back now it was so stupid. Can't believe I never fell from it.

Had a Hawk mini slip down on a very small and diameter tree while using a versa strap. Bark was also wet from a recent rain. Thankfully had my lineman’s belt tight and it caught me quick. About knocked the breath out of me and bruised some ribs but that’s it. Ended up killing the buck in my profile pic about 2 hours later so I guess I picked the right tree.

Can you elaborate on your lineman’s belt tension and position at the time of this fall (i.e. slack or taut, above your hips or not)? That concern has been floating around recently.

My first climber was a X-Stand Mini. Drank the Kool-Aid of it being the lightest climber on the market at 11.5 lbs, which it was. But its flexible cable design kicked out the moment you are not applying central mass to it. Bottom gave up on me and took the top section with it. Luckily I was wearing harness and was in backyard.

I free fell 12 feet flat on my back last year.

I was trying a figure 8 autolock method of rapelling. Absolutely should have had it backed up. That was stupid. I would still never do this method again.

I went to ER and had a CT scan, but nothing damaged. I was sore for weeks.

Here is a video on the method I was using.

I can’t remember if my stick shuffled a little or I just lost my balance, it was a few years ago. Smashed my shin off the stick and had a scrape. It happened to be my lowest stick to the ground and I was happy to have my linesman on and I was pulled tight to the tree. Still gave me a good scare and got the heart pumping!

Does jumping count as falling? I mean after I jumped I fell. Luckily I was tied to a garden hose. That was my senior year and we called it a Mississippi bungee jump. I’d pay big money for that video tape.

As far as falling while hunting, there was a mishap with a foot loop aider. I didn’t fall, but I definitely went sideways. Recovery involved me just pulling myself back to a vertical orientation.

From what I remember lineman’s belt was about belly button high. Decently tight, so I probably had 12” of space between my torso and trunk of tree. A little slack in it but not much if I remember correctly. Stick slid straight down and I fell vertical a bit then it caught and slammed me into the trunk. This was in a pretty small hickory, maybe thigh sized at most, but it had a lot of branches. The LB caught on a branch, I would imagine if there were branches I would have been in for a longer fall.

I was in a Timbertall climber, by myself on a mountain and quite a ways from my truck. I had been in the tree for several hours without a hiccup in the stability of the stand. I was standing facing the tree for several minutes, not making a move or shifting weight in any way, when suddenly the platform trap doored on me with the back going down an the front coming up.
It happened so fast, and I had my hands in my coat pocket, that if my elbows didn't automatically get hung up on the upper portion I would have went down hard. I could have been trapped between the tree and the lower portion with the teeth digging into my back if I continued to fall. I think self rescue would have been all but impossible being trapped like that. Just uncomfortable to even think about.

I've never had a incident while at the top. Whether in a saddle or treestand. But I've had multiple incidents going up and down. Hence while it's critical you stay connected the moment you leave the ground til the time you come down, I'd place more emphasis on the use of a linemans belt. Absolutely critical

I fell most recently after a screw in step broke, raked my ribs on the next step down. I've also fallen after using a cottonwood limb as a step. The limb looked alive but broke off at the base of the trunk (got a stinger from that). My dad crushed his heel years ago after falling from an icy, slick plywood stand (he refuses to climb now and hunts from the ground).

Fell climbing down from a homemade wooden ladder stand when I was a kid. I was super excited and I was rushing down not paying attention. It was my first ever deer hunt. I wasn’t tied in. I wasn’t very high up. It was a pecan tree and I don’t think I fell more than8 or so feet, landed on my back, knocked all my air out. Hurt my ribs some but nothing major. This may or may not have been my first concussion??! Honestly I can’t remember lol:sweatsmile:
Now I have fell off my bucket while sober in the ground blind. It was early, I was tired, and I fell asleep lol pun intended because I woke up just as my a$$ hit the ground lol

I never fell while doing any kind of hunting. I did however try to kick a field goal from the road while wearing turf cleats. I hit a patch of sand/loose gravel and my feet flew right out from under me and up in the air. I fell straight down from about 3-4 ft (wherever my waist was at when I was in mid air) and I landed directly on my back. You think that's nothing but that knocked the air out of my lungs so much so that I almost passed out and was hurting bad for like 3 weeks. I would really not like to fall like that again, much less at any height greater than that. It's comical I know but it hurt like a mother.

Did you make it?
