Hawk Helium Suction Cup Fix

Some guys are having problems with the straps buckles I just changed my straps with LW onesView attachment 30485
Yeah from the several posts it seems the issue with the buckle was the factory put the strap in the wrong direction on a few and it was slipping. I checked all mine today to make sure. I will be swapping mine out for Versa straps soon. The straps work good for me but that shiny buckle is not woods worthy. Did they not think to make them camo or black or brown???

Haven’t read the whole thread so not sure how far along you are on these sticks. But i would recommend starting with sanding the buttons first before cutting the cups if it’s not too late. I sanded mine and it was enough to not need to cut anything on some of the cups. The only cups I cut were ones that were already tearing inside from the buttons. But it wasn’t necessary on others that didn’t tear after sanding.

Do you have pics of the button after you sanded it down? Would hate to take off too much.

This was the reason I sanded them too aside from how hard they were to get apart:

Here’s the amount I cut off inside, if you can tell:

I sanded the heck out of my male cups and he was still tight as heck. Price is great but the quality of these sticks is piss poor.

I agree. I was pretty disappointed too when I got mine put together. Still am. The full length sticks were nothing like these in quality. I expected more from hawk based off the experience from the full length sticks, but seeing how their business is going lately maybe I shouldn’t.

I contacted Halkhelum about all the problems we all need to let them know and Mack's

I also had 3 steps that are off I had to remove and fix with a grinder to get them level with the rest really not happy but like the sticks.

Let us know what you hear back from them, if anything. Would be interested to hear what they say. My opinion is they should redo the cups and buttons and issue a recall on these. Send us all out a set that is designed correctly and doesn’t destroy themselves with very little normal use.

^^^ This is true. I think they have a great product but it could be so much better. And its really minor things that could be remedied easily. Straps should be separated and not put together already, cleaning out the bar before putting bolts in to clean out the slag pieces, fix the suction cups. Those are the issues I've heard so far.

We should all at least write them. If we can write complaints here, we should write them there.

The steps is my biggest concern looks like they drilled the hole off a little so I was able to file a little off the back of the steps to sit flat.

My message sent to Hawk:

I just want to let someone know that many of us in the hunting community that have bought the highly anticipated 20” Helium sticks are quite disappointed in the quality control of these sticks. My personal experience and main complaint is with the cup and buttons. The design of these must not have been tested before launch because the buttons have very sharp edges that make it almost impossible to separate the sticks. Then in addition, while trying to work the sticks together and apart to try and loosen them, my hands were cut up because I had to pull so hard on the metal edges. After numerous attempts working the sticks, the buttons began to tear the rubber cups apart. I have photos to prove this if someone wants to see this. I’m sorry but all of this is unacceptable. The full length helium sticks had none of these problems. I made sure many others in various hunting forums know about these issues before they buy these sticks, and they do. There are many others who also are having quality issues in addition to the issues described here. Perhaps you can note this complaint and send it to your quality department (if you even have one) to work on improving these issues. Hawk makes nice equipment for the price point and these sticks are not it. It would be nice if someone made this right.

Success!! So I followed @Westdesign03 lead and did some cutting and shaping. They now feel like I had hoped they would when I ordered them.
So I cant post pics from my phone because the files are too large???
Here is what I did which is basically the same as above.
On the female end there is a lip and you can see that roughly 1/16 sticks out. I took an exacto knife and cut that 1/16 lip off.
On the male end I took them off the rail so I could get to it better and used a small pair of dykes and just went around it cutting the lip off of it then smoothed out the edges. Remember, the top of the male end, isn't the part that really seats the other section, it is the bottom that you trim.
It goes on and comes apart great now.
I also wrote to Hawk Support this morning. I will let you guys know their response.

Glad the mods worked for you! Mine are also pleasant to take apart now too. I wrote Hawk a nice little nasty gram today too. (I was as nice I could be about all the frustration). Interested to see what they write back.

I had the same problem. Open up the picture on your phone and take a screen shot of the picture. That will decrease the file size.

I haven’t heard back from Hawk either. Kind of don’t expect to honestly. I was looking at my sticks close the other night and noticed more quality issues. A lot of my steps don’t fold out to be the same angle. They’re all just a little different. Some much more noticeable than others. Not a deal breaker. Still like the sticks. They work well too. Just disappointing still. You want your stuff to be nice ya know? At least I do.
