Hawk Helium Suction Cup Fix

I trimmed both and still broke a male end off. I think the plastic/rubber is just too hard to work properly. I am going to trim down the door stopper method so they nest tighter.

Not sure I'm familiar with the "door stopper method". I read this entire thread so apologies if it was mentioned and I missed it but could you elaborate on what that method is?

JR products 10665 door holder

It's for holding camper doors open or closed. Female side is soft rubber and the male side is hard plastic. Goes together and comes apart much easier.

Oh, I do remember seeing a video about that on YouTube now that you mention it. Guess I'll start out by trimming/sanding the existing parts and if that doesn't work or if they fail I'll just remove and maybe go that route too. Keep us posted if you do that mod and how it works!

If I didn’t trim/sand the parts in the beginning, they would have torn themselves apart anyway just with regular use. And I would have a bunch more cuts on my hands just trying to get the dumb things apart.

Yes I think the components used for the cup system are flawed or otherwise inadequate, but the trim/sand thing did improve them in my experience.

I have some older 30" and the rubber is much more pliant and flexible than the newer 20" i bought this spring. I tried sanding, trimming, and ended up taking the male end off, removed the screw and plugged it into the female to create a height that allowed it to stack level with the tie off button and just strapped them together with bungees.

The new cups and plugs on the short heliums are definitely different and not as good as the ones used on the original full length heliums.

I’ve not tried looking on the classifieds but If someone on here has a set of the original cups and plugs from the full length heliums, I would be interested in buying them.

Yeah I saw those. Might still end up using them. Just didn’t really like how much taller they make the sticks sit from each other when stacked. Maybe it’s not that bad but kinda looks like a big separation in the video.

There is some room for trimming them down. Going to do some measuring on the ones I have to see if they can still nest tighter.

Just got my set of 20” sticks from Mack’s. First time I stacked them, When I took them apart one of the male heads broke off. Sent an note to both Mack’s and Hawk, but sounds like I shouldn’t count on a response from Hawk. Hopefully Mack’s will send a replacement and then I can try to trim the female and sand the male to see if that works for me

Did the JR door suction cups yesterday. Used 2 for 3 fullsize sticks, middle stick has both parts placed opposite each other, one less screw to deal with. They do space the sticks further apart from each other so I used the old suction cup parts on the ends to keep the tips from banging together. Two sticks face the same way and the third cleats face toward the inside to keep the feet from sticking out so far. Still needed some silicone grease on the rubber cup as they stick pretty tight and make a pop when they come apart.

After spending some time reading the forum, sanding, and cutting I still broke a damn male end. I specifically bought hawks because I saw a video of how well they packed together with the suction cups. Total bs makes me want to go out and get a climbing stand.

I would if I were you. Save yourself a lot of hassle

Drill a small hole in the side of female pieces and the pop will go away. Doesn’t need to be big, super small will work.

Yeah just haven't drilled the holes yet. When bow season fires back up after this weekend, I will drill the holes.

Wow what garbage. I got a new set of 4 hawk helium’s a month ago. Took them out this morning and broke every one of the suction cups trying to get them apart
