Hawk Helium vs. Muddy Pros

The micro cam cleats are just a bit tall to stack the sticks because of the hardware sticking out the back. For now I am just offsetting them vertically on the stick so they don’t interfere with each other, but I could see counter sinking a nut in the backside if you wanted them all in the exact same spot on each stick. Still waiting on the rope.

Looks like that could be an easy fix by just replacing with shorter screws. I like where this is going with the Heliums. When I was looking at the website, It looks like those can be taken apart to replace hardware for the Cam Cleats.

I ordered some appropriate sized hardware, I’ll see if I can get it to fit nice.

So I might be a bit dense but are you using 3 or 4 hawk heliums vs 4 muddy pros? I'm just getting a little confused on how you can get to the same height with a shorter stick without aider.

Haha, naw...I’m not a seller...I like holding onto stuff...never know when I might need em :)

Plus, he’s frickin rich and rich men don’t sell sticks:)

on a serious note, it does sound like cam cleat helium’s are the best of both worlds. Is there a way to buy cleats to add to a helium that DONT $30 a piece?!

i have both and really like the ropes vs the straps. IMO cams are easy and lock quickly and easier to readjust. I have never liked the straps that came with the hawk heliums. the metal is not blackened, the straps seem thing..and if you hit that strap against something..big metal bang.

What kind of rope are you running with these?

So why were your Muddy pro sticks so much faster than Hawks?
I think it’s just the user friendly and quickness of the cam cleats. They are so damn fast. I have muddy pros, the new short Heliums I’m going to pair with daisy chains, and modified apis with amsteel rope mod.

I always go back to my muddys. I’ve been running just two sticks paired with a 5 step cayg aider. I can get my platform around 17-19 ft.

The attachment method of using the cam cleat + half hitch...on my hawks I’m using 7/64 daisy chains which were fairly fast but about 50 percent of the time, you don’t hit the daisy chain loop perfect so you have to re adjust the stick or go around the tree twice to get it to seat right...just a bit more fiddle factor than the Muddy’s...The Muddy’s attachment method is just super simple and fast...in my opinion, the extra weight of the Muddy’s is a trade off I’m willing to accept due to how easily and efficiently I can get up the tree... here’s Bobby Boswell’s climb...he does a great job of explaining.

So i just picked up a set of Muddy Pros for cheap, they are definitely a heavy stick, and most of the weight is in the steps. I made my own steps with a drill press, band saw and grinder. Here's the difference in weight, it's close to 2#'s for 4 sticks. After I get done modifying them, I'll post the weights with original steps and my double steps.

Well done...if I had the ability to do this I’d prolly mess around with it. The steps and the bolts in the steps are what’s heavy...interested to see how they turn out for ya

I've been practicing with my 20" heliums and daisy chain webbing from DanO. Im new to this stick thing as I was a climber guy before so I look like a newborn fawn trying to walk when it comes to sticks. It is a hassle with the daisy webbing. Almost slower than buckles. Plus is the less weight and no more metal banging metal. I tried "twirling" it (for lack of a better term) to try and tighten the daisy up but it is time consuming as previously stated.
I'm definitely interested in the cam cleat option on these, even if I have to take off the suction cups, which I really like.
